Ok.. after reading the forums and following the tutorials on the site, my installation of a modchip and new hdd went great, no problems at all, and didn't have to bug anyone for help. So here's the deal. When I am connected to my xbox, like i'm gonna ftp and stuff, the internet on my PC goes out. It makes me po'd cause when I'm transfering large files to my xbox, I can't get online.. I just gotta sit.. and watch.. I've searched and searched, and the closest thing i found was a tutorial on xbc that says you gotta enable internet sharing or get this program called winroute. I tried that and not a thing happened. I was wondering if this happened to anything else and if anyone knows what I should do... any input will be followed with a thank you... and a hug if you fix it.

You need to give details of your network setup here such as. Type of internet connection, how the pC connects, router, cablemodem , how you are hooking in the xbox etc.

The pC and the Xbox should both go into the router. the conection from the cable modem should be into the WAN port on the router
This tutorial is very good http://www.chefelf.com/xbox/networking.php This post has been edited by Chancer: Nov 3 2005, 12:27 PM |

Thanks Chancer for the help. But what If I'm not able to connect my pc and xbox into the router? Its clear across the house cause thats where my internet comes in.. The site you gave me is one that I found also, and I tried to do what it said, like the "add route" part, but it kept giving me an error. It feels like when the xbox is connected, my computer thinks that the xbox is where the internet is coming from and thats where it tries to get it from.

What you need:
2 Network cards in your PC 1 Crossover cable 1 Striaght trough cable Windows XP or 2k Xbox Connect the Straight trough cable to your router and to your 1st network card in your PC Connect the Crossover cable to your Xbox and to your 2nd network card in your PC Now, go n startup ur PC rightclick My Network Places and go to your internet connection (NOT THE CONNECTION WITH THE XBOX). Again, rightclick it and do properties. Now enable Inernet Connection sharing. It should change the IP of your other network card to 192.168.0.1. Now startup ur Xbox. The xbox should get an IP. To get the IP open up Command prompt and type arp -a and you'll see it. Connect as normally and you will have internet too -Rav |

bullshit. i have that exact same setup same router and all and you don't need all of that crap. dont plug the xbox into the computer with a crossover. use a straght through and plug it into port 1 on the router. make sure dhcp is enabled on both and it should work fine.

incidentally i don't know what you are planning to do with your xbox, but just moving games around and stuff you should be fine. i use xbmc to stream movies and shit from my computer to the xbox/tv and eventually gave up on the whole wireless thing. the transfer rate was fine like 95% of the time but every once in a while it would drop and the video would jerk and pause. if that is your plan i recommend just hard wiring everything together.

ok.. so i think i made proccess... but not much. Heres the latest. I tried the ICS, but it was yelling at me that the ip reserved for it was in use.. 192.168.0.1.. which is my routers ip. So I changed my router's ip, and my pcs, and then I enabled ICS... and it worked.. Only problem was that now.. I couldn't get internet at all.. any ideas??

what do you mean worked? you mean the xbox and the comp can now see each other? if so then that is progress. start your browser and go to 192.168.0.1
that is your router settings. if it doesn't bring up the settings screen then the problem is between your router and computer, but this is unlikely if your xbox and comp can see each other. under advanced click lan ip setup and make sure that the use router as dhcp server box is checked. without actually seeing your settings it is hard to know what else needs fixing, but try looking around and seeing if anything seems wrong |

okay i just reread your post. i am not sure but i think that your router needs to be 192.168.0.1 i could be wrong on that but like i said earlier i have the exact same setup and that is what mine needed to be in order for my router to act as the gate between me and the internet.

for ICS to be enabled the NIC card has to have the IP of 192.168.0.1, so you need to set your router to something different, i set mine to 192.168.0.10

Thanks mason.. this is what I did before you posted and ran into a snag I think. I changed my routers IP to exactly what you changed it to (odds on that?) ICS worked and it finally let me set it up.. this is when I lost access to the interent but I could transfer to my xbox with FTP.. I know quite a bit about computers and stuff, but the networking part I'm not... I got bored and set up a home networking thing to see if that would work, and now I can get internet, but when I try to ftp to my xbox, it just sits there... I think I'm gonna cave and just goto Frys and buy a 100 ft cat5 cable and just hook it up to my router.. |

Hibbidy doo da.. I fixed it. Figured out the all it was the probelm, was the xbox ip couldn't be in the same range as the router or computer.. like the comps ip of 192.168.0.x, the xbox had to be sometrhing like 192.168.1.x with no gateway. Thanks for everyones help.
