Hi,

I recently flashed my 360 with iXtreme 1.4 (x12) and everything was working well until about 4 days after. I was watching a legitimate DVD movie and it started to have problems reading the media. I ejected the disc and tried a few times but the disc came back as unreadable. I stuck the same DVD movie in my media center and it played back perfectly. I then tried a backed up 360 game which failed to play, lots of disc spinning and then 'Unreadable Disc'.

I thought it might be bad media, even though the disc worked before, so I tried an orginal 360 game and it did the same - Unreadable Disc. I thought laser failure, but clutching at straws tried an audio CD which played fine.

Any ideas? Should I retry the flash at a slower speed? Any advice would be appreciated.

Will be a bad laser.
Try Verbatim DVDs from Singapore if these dont work either you will have to tweak the pot of the laser, search Google for "360 dvd pot calibration" it should come up with Moda's tutorial.

If this doesnt work either you will have to replace the laser...

CD <> DVD

Try cleaning* before tweak the pot. which drive is it? In my hitachi I had to make a bumper for the LASER positioning switch so it reads my verbs. It was reading Intenso's DVD9 OK before that (but not anymore - bad media).

* - very important if it catches lots of dust or its a smoking enviroment...

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

It's a Hitachi GDR-3120L drive. I cracked it open after reading some people had just given the disc a 'push' but it made no difference. I managed to find a local guy with a GDR-3120L for £15, so I am going to just swap the drive out.

I always use Verbatim media from Singapore - it's not worth the time spent making coasters with anything else, but it failed even with legitmate media and a bog basic DVD movie. I also live in a smoke free and, thanks to the girlfriend, dust free place!

Will let you know how I get on with the drive swap ...

If the motor does't turn very well try to remove the motor and relube it.
It is a know fact that hitatchi has a problem with it, the dirt packs up and drags the motor until it won't move or spin fast enough.
So spin the motor and see if it drags a bit.
if it drags, look for some tuts, it isn't very hard.
When you take out the motor, count the turns of the screw since they determine the angle of the laser.
You can do it without that but it just takes longer to reassemble.

Ye it will actually safe a lot of time to do that or you will end up adjusting forever...
