Resistors, noob thread Options

I don't know a whole lot about resistors and capacitors, etc etc.

Just wondering if anyone can explain the basics about resistors. For example, when hooking up a 100OHM resistor to a controller (5V positive source) what exactly will it be running at afterwards?
What happends if u don't run the resistor? will it just blow the led or will the lef fry the controller for eg.
Again im a noob on the subject and just want to get a bit more educated on the topix. I can do most of these installs with ease but I want to know exactly what im doing before performing it. I bet most people don't know what they're doing when doing these mods, just follow instructions and thats it, im opposite

p.s does anyone have a good detailed link to determine how many ohms a resistor is?

Resistors limit current. Without a resistor, too much current will flow through the LED and blow it out. To find out how many ohms a resistor is, you can use the bands of color it has. There's lots of guides around to determine that, try google.
