So I have a Windows 7 PC that is my "Media Server" and just houses all my AVI files. I stream the videos by using the System Video Player option and manually browsing to the server, the shared folder, etc. This has always worked fine but I realize that it doesn't seem to show MP4 files. Is there any way to make MP4 files show up when streaming files this way?

UPDATE: well, it didn't at first but then I tried again and it did, so I have no idea what's going on with the MP4 files.

I know the other option is to use WMP on the WIN7 machine and use the Stream option, but I've never tried to set it up this way. Is there any benefit to doing it that way vs the way I'm doing it currently? Will streaming work better? Can it play more file types? etc.

Thanks.
