Hey guys-
So my v1.3 box has been modded for about a year now. Xenium Ice chip, M7 bios, 200g hard drive... and slayers evox. I used slayers because it seemed easy, and the noob thing to do. Well I know it's got bugs, and a bunch of stuff I don't need on it.... and I can't run my backup copy of GTA: San Andreas because of problems with it. What I want is this: The latest and greatest bios and dash that will allow me to play games of the drive, play my backups off my hard drive, have ftp capabilities, and maybe in the future be able to run emulators. I'm only interested in saving about 10 back-ups and the saved game files for those backups. I don't want any of the other bells and whistles. Now I'm a noob when it comes to understanding a lot of this. So can someone either help me, or direct me to any tutorials that will help me out here? I know where to get the files I will probably need. I just want to know which ones. All I need is an up-to-date tutorial, or someone's help. It seems a lot of these tutorials are either out dated or clear as mud. I'd appreciate any help Thanks guys!! |

The M7 is old. I'd reflash your Ice with the Xecuter2_5035. As for your dash, take your pic. I have tuts in my sig for making different dashes your default. I've used them all so I know they work.
Go get the latest dvd2xbox and XBMC from the usual places and FTP them into your apps folder. Delete anything in your apps that you don't want. For example, XBMP is old and not supported. Slayer's puts it on by default. I delete it "by default". |

Sorry, just to clarify. I currently have about 10 backups and game saves that I want to save off my current hard drive, before formating it and re-installing the new stuff.

1) Start with learning how to use Xbins http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php
2) Get a dashboard that is easy to use such as Unleash X, UIX, or Avalaunch. 3) Get the emu's and apps you want from xbins 4) boot slayers to use it only as an FTP client for the xbox http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/network.php 5) delete your old dash during your FTP session and place your new dashboard there and make sure the xbe is a name your BIOS can boot, it will probably be "evoxdash.xbe" 6) Reboot This post has been edited by deftonesmx17: Nov 2 2005, 10:54 PM |

Well, the first step would to be to take your hard drive back to its default state. Back up your games folder, E:\TDATA, E:\UDATA and C:\drives. After that, use the Xenium ICE OS to format and the OS's networking to FTP everything back. After that, go to xbins and get the latest software that you want. I also recommend reflashing with the Xeucuter 2 BIOS, version 5035, and I definitely recommend Avalaunch as your Dashboard. When installing Avalaunch, all you'll have to do is dump everything in the Avalaunch folder into your Xbox's C drive (avalaunch.xbe, avalaunch.xml, a few folders)l
For software, I recommend that you get the following: Latest XBMC CVS compile Latest DVD2XBOX Latest AVALAUNCH This post has been edited by Vayate: Nov 2 2005, 10:52 PM |

Just FTP your entire E:/ drive and whatever folder your backups are in to your PC, reformat, and then FTP the files back to your Xbox.
But wait, why reformat? just delete the stuff that you don't want. Here is the best stuff, IMO: x2 5035 - best bios Unleashx - best dash if you mainly use your Xbox for gaming XBMC - best all-around dash and certainly the best to use if you want your Xbox to function as a media center. Only get the CVS version! Avalaunch - best networking capabilities EvoX - good for trainers, if you're into that |

Whoa! Lots of stuff just coming from all directions...haha, thanks guys.
The third man: I want to reformat just so I can clean everything up. I'm afraid that if i leave some of the slayers crap in there things can get corrupted. I mainly use my xbox for gaming. The only time I will need it for networking it to transfer stuff to and from the PC. So I'm assuming unleashx? theperfekt001: I read through that...doesn't work. Thanks though. Vayate: little confused on using xenium to format the hard drive? Vayate and the third man: what exactly is XMBC? what is the difference between avalaunch and unleashx? deftonesmx17: confused on your step 5...sorry C o s m o: thanks |

just look for a file called evoxdash.xbe on your xbox HDD, that will be the place where you will put your new dash and you need to make sure it is named what your BIOS can boot and I believe your current BIOS boots evoxdash.xbe, sorry if this is confusing, thats also why I didnt tell you to reflash your chip

Turn on your Xbox by pushing the eject button. It will come up with an OS menu. After that, go into Disk Tools and you'll see a number of options including an upgrade wizard, the ability to format, etc.
XBMC, or Xbox Media Center, is a media player for Xbox that is absolutely awesome. It's a must-have application. |

Ok, I'm learning here...I think.
Lets just start from the beginning. I know where and how to get files form the usual places. I need to get the stuff I want to save off my current hard drive. The 10 games and game saves. How (or if you have a link to a tutorial) do I ftp from the xbox to the PC. I need to back up " your games folder, E:\TDATA, E:\UDATA and C:\drives." Where are my games folders? Ok, once that is done. I'm reflashing my chip with Xeucuter 2 BIOS, version 5035. I'm assuming I can delete the M7 bios at this time. Then using the Xenium Ice OS I will re-format my hdd... At this point I will have xenium with the xecuter 2 bios v5035, a blank hard drive, My games/game saves, and my new xbox software on my PC. What do I do from here? I'm sure I'm being difficult and I apologize... but you guys are just turning a noob into someone who can help other noobs |

you don't really need to back up your games folder. it'd be a waste of time. just rerip your original game discs when you're done.
as for how to ftp... http://www.chefelf.com/xbox/networking.php This post has been edited by theperfekt001: Nov 2 2005, 11:51 PM |

Thank you much. I'm gonna go home here after work and start the fun. Once I get to the point I think I'm probably gonna get stuck at: a blank drive, and my avalunch/unleashx ...not sure which one i want to use, xbmc cvs version, and dvd2xbox programs plus my games.... I'll come back to my post. You guys have been helpful. I'm just a little confused on how to set up the folders and such with the dashboard on my hard drive. I realize that most of this stuff is in some tutorial somewhere, but you guys have been major time savers. I appreciate it.

On second thought, after reading through the avaluanch manual...its seems rather complicated. Do I need evox on there first? Is unleashx easier to use?
