Cant Boot From Usb Options

It seems my new pc is unable to boot from usb (asus p5b deluxe) so i was wondering what other options i have. i heard of people using cd's ?? How is this done as i am finding it hard to get information on this.

You can use a bootable cd called Nfts4dos, download it and burn it.
Now with xtreme boot maker you just select all the options you want, and then as target you do C:\.

Now boot with the cd, and typ 'C:' and press Enter. Then typ 'cd XBF', now you can start

you could also use a floppy (new one less chance of errors)

or else create a partition on your hard drive to boot to.

tried the cd but after selecting ntfs4dos it just hangs on a black screen

i used a new floppy. i hate floppies, but it seemed to work. it still plays my originals and thats all i know at this point. I didnt know how to use that boot cd - but now i do

I tried updating my bios first to see if the later releases allow for booting from usb. With my dell, no luck, but maybe yours will have added it.

Have you formatted the USB key to be bootable?

Check your system's post and press the key for the boot menu, if key is bootable will be listed there, my machine doesn't boot USB even if there's no hard disk/cds, I have to do this

I know you "can" flash from a floppy, but I would never ever do that because they are so incredibly unreliable. Even brand new floppys sucks. Would hate to see flashing stop in the middle of the process or flashing a corrupt firmware because the floppy had read errors. Using a floppy is a great way to risk end up with a very expensive paper-weight.

I have the same motherboard. You can boot from USB. Just choose USB as your first boot device in your BIOS settings.

Did you format the drive and make it bootable? If not use xtreme bootmaker to format your USB device and make it bootable.

I used floppy's ever since the Xtreme firmware was first released.. Everything worked fine for me up until the end of Dec when my floppy gave out half way through the flash... It was hell getting my bricked drive back using the Bad Flash Recovery method but thankfully (and with some luck) I finally got it working again..

Since my PC couldnt boot to USB and my NTFSDOS CD encounters werent too friendly ( I couldnt get it to work right.. There aren't any tuturials on how to use it either which sux) I decided to create an addition partition on my HDD...

Using Partition Magic 8.0 I created a Fat32 39.2mb (smallest Fat32 you can make) partition on my HDD and installed MS-Dos 7.1 on it in order for it could boot on startup... Then its just a matter of having all my files on that partition and whenever I want to flash I make my Dos drive bootable (using Partition Magic) and reboot my computer (which goes to dos now).. I then flash and when I'm done I use FDisk (which is installed automatically when you install MSDos) to make my windows partition the active one.. Then I reboot and am back to my regular computer..

Ofcourse theres more to it than this but this is pretty much the basics.. If anyone has any questions.. Feel free to ask..

In Bios it just has removable device and with that selected it wouldnt boot. Which bios you using. Also it might be my pendrive i guess (sony) Worked fine on my P5WDH

*UPDATE* Flashed it by floppy in the end. Now got error 66 with fw 4.0 going to have to put 3.3 on it now

i've also got the Asus P5B Deluxe board and i've asked around on different forums and it seems that you can't boot from a USB Device. Only option I can see that might be of some use is "USB Legacy Device". I've enabled this but still no luck.

why are you still using 4.0 and 3.3? Why not use 5.2 with the option to spoof the dvd drive so that you don't get the error 66..

was looking into it. Just using auto flashers at the moment but ithink i will have a go at manul tonight.
