Softmod Problems, Error 21, no FTP access to get backup eeprom Options

I'm trying to softmod my xbox. I ran the MA gamesave exploit with softmod installer 2.0. Then I used Slayer's Autoinstaller. For some reason the Evo-x dash would not show up afterwards. However I could FTP into my xbox. Then I tried to boot to a rescue disk from softmod installer (so I could start from original xbox settings and try again). I put the rescue disk in but I think because I don't have a modchip the xbox won't read it and now I'm stuck on an error 21. During this time I forgot to back up my C and E partitions. I hooked up the xbox hd to an old comp with XBOXHDM 1.9 to rebuild C partition but I can't unlock it. The eeprom.bin is on the xbox hd but I don't know how to access it because now I can't FTP into my xbox. I realize there were mistakes made by me.<---n00b But is there anyway to fix my xbox? If I can gain FTP access and get the eeprom I think I can unlock my hd and fix it with xboxhdm but I don't have any idea how to do that. Please help.

Okay, if you couldn't unlock your HD, then your Xbox wouldn't boot. Everytime you turn it on, the Xbox unlocks the HD. You can still keep it unlocked even without the key. Right aftet the Xbox animation screen, pull the IDE cable. It should get frozen on the MS Dash (all you'll see is the green webbing) and your box will stay unlocked. Or you can run a game for about a minute and then pull the IDE cable (While the game is still on and stays on until your done). That always works.

Lesson #1: Don't ever use Slayer's, AID, or any autoinstaller with a softmod, it will screw it.
Lesson #2: Take the time to search and read tutorials before you go and do something, it will save you lots of pain.

Alright, you can either buy an original copy of the xbox restore disc from ebay or llamma.com or you can buy a modchip (DuoX2 sells for about 15 bucks and will work fine if you are used to a softmod anyway.)

P.S. @ Kolk, even if he gets it unlocked, he doesnt have the EEPROM to lock it back so he will probably get an error 6 because for a stock BIOS to read the HD it has to be locked.

To answer some questions the MA save still works. If I put in MA I can run the exploit to get to the softmod installer screen. I have the eeprom backed up on the xbox hd. In E:\backups\eeprom\backup\ there is a eeprom.bin file. I was wondering if I do unlock my harddrive by swapping it when I start it up if there is anyway to then go into the xbox hd and copy the eeprom.bin to my pc hd so I can make a new xboxhdm cd so I can then lock up my xbox hd after I fix it??

HOW??? I only have three screens I can make come up on the xbox. The error 21 screen. Playing a authentic xbox game. And the softmod installer screen when I use the gamesave exploit. If anyone knows how to FTP with those screens please tell me.

I tried to FTP from the softmod installer screen but it won't let me. If anyone has any tips or settings I should make sure I have that would help out a lot. I'm using FlashFXP with the TCP/IP properties on my local area connection with 192.168.0.4 as my IP. It worked before but now it isn't.

Is there a way to hook an unlocked xbox drive to a PC and get files off of it? I think if I were able to do that I could get my eeprom and fix my xbox.

When you select the "Run Linux" from the Mech Assault menu you should reach a screen that has several selections on it. If it goes to the other screen and starts playing music, press "B" to return to the main menu. This should have install UDE, Backup, etc.

The IP of the Xbox should be 192.168.0.3 put that into your FTP software with xbox xbox as user and password. If your computer is 192.168.0.4, you should be able to connect.

It is very important to back up your files as soon as you connect to your Xbox.

I make a backup folder "My Xbox" and copy all of C and E into it.

After modding, I copy C and E to "My Xbox Modded".

That way I can make a new CD with xboxhdm to restore to the original state or a new modded CD i fthings totally screw up and you want to redo your larger hard drive.

Let me know if the above doesn't work. Remember, if everything is set right, check your cables, disable firewalls, and retry. Try it without a router also.
