Xbox Emulation Repository

Here's a place where users can share anything xbox emulation related (except of course the roms).

I'd like this to be a home of screenshots, box cover scans, cheats, skins, whatever you need to make your emulators a better place.

Currently this site is hosting Chron Johnson's and Guybirds screenshot/art packs, but it's set up to be much much more.

have at it.

Yo hargle, where the Master System art pack at? Can't find any general info about how to use my weird-ass art packs, might lead to some frustration if people don't know the procedure to perform on their ROMs. Great looking site. Nice to see the MAME art pack up there, even though it's crap images. Is the FBA-XXX Pro set up too? I think so far only guybird and I have signed up. I wish more to do so immediately and begin sharing their stashes. Everyone here has stashes, let's have em.

Edit: Woops, found the guides. No Game Gear section though? There's a whole art pack for that bad boy too.

Bah, missed that one when I uploaded everything else. I need to get your NES pack up as well.
Should all be available by the weekend. Sorry 'bout that.

This is a handy way to bump the topic back up! tongue.gif

How do you go about loading packs up?

I finished my PC Engine, & Lynx Packs - using Guybird's format. I only use the boxart (0001.png), Title (0004.png), and Screen (0005.png). I am currently working on SMS, and plan on moving on to Genesis (have been waiting on Guybird's packs), ot SNES.

All of my box art/sreens come from HERE. Used the emu itself to fill in the missing pieces.

I have also resized each png to match the format output by each emu when it takes a screenshot.

My US sets were split from full sets using goodtools, then renamed using a batch renamer (hate the auto renamers). I can aslo offer some advice as to how to keep their existing rom name format (like myself, and apply someone elses screen to them fairly quickly.)

- Like the site by the way.

Yeah I'm sorry about the Sega Genesis pack not being done yet. I thought I was done and ready to go, but I'm now finding that more than 50% of the set is missing titles, so I want to get all of those 'capped and put in before I release it. I added a few new sections a few days ago to accomodate some of the "missing" systems. As Xport keeps releasing new emulators, I expect we'll be adding new sections quite often. If someone has a pack for something that doesn't have a section, let me or Harlge know so we can add it in.

Scooby, if you have any issues with the SMS pack let me know. It was next on my hit list, but if you're already started, don't let me stop you. Since the box covers are entire scans of the front and back all in one piece, you'll have to use a batch editor to split them. It also guarantees that the majority of your pack will have back cover art though, which is great.

Guybird,

No worries about the Gen pack. After doing 2 of the small sets to start, I can understand what takes so long. (eg. that nes set of yours must have taken a while)

I wasn't going to split my title shots on the sms, but they look horrible as is. I figured they might look ok on my bigscreen, but they don't. I will play around with the options on the program I am using to see if splitting them is an easy option.

What are you using to split the Genesis box art if I may ask? I see they are pretty much the same as the SMS. This SMS one may take some time.

This sure is boring work - but it looks so awesome at the end. I hope xport implements saving screens for emus that run multiple systems in different subfolders as suggested, but he didn't seem all the gung ho for it. I would rather do that then go through the trouble of getting the same emu running mutiple times in my dash.

It's pretty exciting with xport relasing all the new emu's, I am just trying to keep up with what he has released.

You're welcome, damnit. I don't see what's so awful about my Master System pack, it took me a fuck-long time, as did all the others. Recropped all the damn box covers myself. Same for the Genesis pack. Maybe you can just take what I've already did and rename the folders. Wheee.

Edit: Here's what we really need though. I've got this big fat pack of Gameboy Advance box covers, and so does guybird. All the covers are labeled 0001 through 1400.jpg Now, as we're all probably aware of by now, Gameboy Advance ROM naming conventions call for the same 4 digit numbers to precede each ROM...so each ROM matches up with its appropriate screenshot. Those of us with renaming skills need to think of a good method to make a box pack for GBA. I need to name the 0001.jpg - 1400.jpg things in the same way the ROMs are named...or someone else does. Also required are the rest of the box covers (1401-2300+)...at one point I saw a link to 1401-1450 but it was dead. So they're out there. And we need them more than a second Master System art pack.

Edit: It seems my NES pack never got uploaded...no wonder scoobysnaxx is so taken by guybird's NES pack over mine. Expect it to appear very soon, with all regions supported, with box covers for US roms and screenshots for other countries. Also an FBA-XXX titles pack courtesy of vidikron. If anyone can find a MAME screenshots pack for v0.84 it will exceed mine as long as the images don't have queer grey borders around them.

Chron Johnson: no offense was intended.

I just prefer Guybirds setup, I find it more structured, consistent, and easier to follow. It also happend to be the first pack I looked at.

Take your Genesis pack for instance, using the AAAHH!!!RealMonsters as an example. There are five entries. Each folder contains a file 0001.png

I have to physically look in each folder to see if it contains a screen, title, or box shot. Where as using Guybirds naming system I can tell quite easily what is missing from each set by the numbering system. 0001.png = Box, 0004.png = Title 0005.png = Screen etc.

Using the 0001.png for evey single image in your zip, also makes it difficult to take the pieces I want to keep, or discard. Using Guybirds complete pack, I can quickly filter out the box shots if I wanted to, or all the title shots if I wanted, etc etc. I don't see a quick way of doing this using yours.

I also only use US rom sets mostly, and at the most I only have one entry per game (I dont have 5 versions of the same game, I find this redundent) So not having to sift through your massive collection is also a plus for me.

Bottom Line is that I just found Guybirds pack to be more user firendly.

I have no doubts that you spent a lot of time on the packs, but they just arn't what I am looking for, or how I envision my final setup. I will definately snag some of your SMS box shots, if I can incorporate them into my own quickly/easily. I am likely going to be doing each of my own anyway, as I like doing things for myself. If I run short on time, I can always use Guybrids shots as his will be the same setup as my own.

Hope that clears things up a bit, I am going to have a look at a few more of your packs, but they all appear to be the same layout which is making them difficult to use for how I want my screenshot collection to look.

Thanks - will be checking out your nes pack shortly.

Yeah. I'm more frustrated at myself for not keeping the files in a semi-finished state so that I could update them...I'm not overjoyed myself at the chaotic appearance of my packs as a whole. Once installed they're great...but just looking at the filenames you can see how there's no backtracking to be done. Anything that has a box cover has a box cover, anything that had a screenshot and not a box cover has a screenshot. "Having" means "exists at screenshot archive".

Well FWIW I plan on signing up once I have something ready to send.

I'm currently working on (or will be).. Amiga and AtariST gamebase compatible screenshots.
I'd be willing to do the vice64 shots as well (based on Game base of course).

See a pattern developing here? laugh.gif

The only drawback is I have different preferences over what I prefer to be the snapshot order.
Maybe everyone working on their packs could change em around so it's up to the user to decide.

For example... Lets say we have titles, screens, boxes, and cart-art.
Have all your titles in a "titles" subdirectory, and "Screens", "boxes", "carts" for the rest.
The user can then copy whichever dir he wants over to his roms directory, run xrenamer pick the number of prefence. Do the same for the rest.

Does that sound like a good idea?

I'm also curious. What's the deal with title shots anyways? They never made any sense to me. I'd say 98% of the time all they show is the game name, publisher, and maybe the year.

Oh on a side note... I can do an atarixlbox collection as well. Problem is, I have no naming convention. I prefer atarimania files due to their faithfulness to the original format. I can even include config files for the stuff so the user does not have to worry about what "type" of file it is.

I've acquired a standardized set of titles and screenshots for every single GBA ROM in existence. Need help finding the box covers to go with them...have 0001-1400, need 1401-2350. These screens/titles are 240x160, all pngs, it's mad fat. These US boxes are uniform png files...220x220 for the US boxes, 280x180 for the foreign chrons. This is good stuff, need all the boxes. Who's in the know about this stuff? Heh like 5 of these boxes are frowny face .GIFs. Gonna need some fills on them too. Who has the hookup?

This thread is getting out of control. I love it.

How do you go about loading packs up?

Just go to the download section and click "add download"
Browse the zip file off your local hard drive, add the name and description, pick the category it should go in (or uncategorized if it doesn't fit anywhere yet) and hit the "add this file" button. Once your file is checked, it'll be added to the site's download section by one the admins. It's fairly straightforward, and most appreciated!

I upped it last night. You should probably go in and modify the description so people know what it is their downloading. Sorry this one got missed in the mass upload I did last weekend. My eyes were blurring out after working on the site for 2 days straight.

I believe everything else is there now-please let me know if one of your packs might be missing.

Guybird and I broke apart his NES collection into 5 different downloads. I think that's a good idea for all large packs. This makes for smaller downloads, especially for people who don't want box scans, cart scans, title screens AND screenshots. This also makes it easier to add a couple missing files when they are added, rather than downloading the whole set again.

I'd suggest this for all future packs.

Yes please! I think configs, especially for some emulators like atariXLbox and intellivision which don't map to the controllers very well, should certainly have a home on the site. Could save someone a lot of frustration in the future.

Let someone know when you're ready to upload stuff like that and we'll add some new sub-sections just for config files.

This is too awesome. I've always wondered about boxart and stuff, but never got around to finding sites with packs. Of course surreal has it already included, which is awesome.
