Is there a risk free way to find out whether my chipset will support My Benq drive I need to flash, without soldering, or should I just not waste my time and get a PCI card.

Which one would you recommend for BENQ? Is VT6421A still the king?

You can try other cards but they won't work at putting the drive in the right mode using dosflash..... To use other cards you would need to cut 2 tracks and solder on a switch.... see tutorial below...

I'd go with the Via card.....
