I can answer that one... The case was my birthday present to dingbat, and before I gave it to him I popped out the jewel by sliding a small screwdriver into the gap between the side of the jewel and the case, and popped it up. Easy enough.
Anyway, I'm fairly certain that this is the first painted xcm case... No big deal, as it's no different from painting a crystal... Perhaps more importantly, I'm also fairly certain it's the first purple painted clear case... Dingbat and I were discussing colors to paint it about a week ago, and were looking for something different, and this is what we came up with.
We used krylon stain glass paint, heavily coated so that it would be a nice, deep, purple... The color reminds me exactly of that of welch's grape juice, although I suppose you could classify the color as a wine.
We were originally planning on using UV leds, but tonight decided that perhaps white would be better, so we're going with that... Dingbat soldered up an outward led ring, which looks very nice, and we cleared an extra jewel that I had, and are gonna hopefully pick up metal flake silver or something similar at autozone tomorrow to paint the jewel with.
