Cross you fingers might be?

Don't wanna pull off those heat sinks and tell? J/K

The PSU is still 175w ? Makes sense though why do they want to make "another" replacment PSU.
Maybe its just rated that but only consumes 150 etc.

It is likely that the thing is actually a Jasper, they have used different caps on the right of the CPU and they are also using 2 different caps on the lower left of the GPU.
The solder is also missing which might be a sign for a different production line.

It could also just be another improvement that Microsoft made though, they have replaced components like capacitors often in the past especially for the old xenons.
So please take off the GPU heatsink and take pictures of the GPU, and also take a pic of the underside of the mainboard, to see if they are using bottom RAM or if this one is like the 60GB version...

And the heatsink is just an aluminum GPU one, the light illuminates which gives it a yellowish color...
It would be more likely that they start using the old heatsinks again though because the GPU will run at lower temps so Microsoft could save money.

I don't know if taking the GPU heatsink off will tell you anything. Doesn't the Falcon CPU look just like the Zephyr, etc. CPU?

No, the Falcon CPU chip is smaller, and it's 65nm. Therefore if the GPU was smaller than normal, it would be 65nm as well, signifying a Jasper.

No it doesn't. The Falcon's GPU is not the same as the Xenon/Zephyr GPUs. Check this article on Anandtech:

http://www.anandtech.com/gadgets/showdoc.aspx?i=3152&p=5

You can clearly see that on the Falcon, both the GPU and CPU are physically smaller. Clearly something has been done with the Falcon GPU - Anandtech speculate it's an 80nm process which sounds feasible.

I've seen a few of these boards. I doubt they're Jasper.

If you don't want to remove the GPU heatsink, just let the console run as normal for 10 mins then check the temperature of the heatsink with the back of your hand. If it is blazing hot it's probably 90nm (Falcon) If it's barley warm then it's likely to be 65nm (Jasper)

Yeah I only have a Falcon machine - was just saying that people seem to think the Falcon has the same old 90nm GPU that's in Xenons and Zephyrs, but when you take the heatsinks off and compare the dies, the Falcon clearly has a physically smaller GPU so it likely is manufactured on an 80nm process.

Obviously the Jasper's GPU should be even smaller again.

It seems the new boards with RAM chips on only one side are still Falcons. They must've just sourced higher density RAM chips for cheaper so have cut down on the amount of chips required.

Sorry guys, it's not a Jasper.

It's actually a Falcon, but if the poster would remove the GPU heatsink they would see that it is a different stepping of Falcon than previous versions. I call it V3 falcon. I have pics posted of the GPU

http://www.flickr.com/photos/31903705@N05/2985693081/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/31903705@N05/2985693945/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/31903705@N05/2985694915/

It runs on the same wattage as the other Falcons, but it does had a different part # listed as compared to the falcon GPU pics posted on the net.

Are those small, half red caps a sure fire way to tell if you got a v2 Falcon without opening it?
