My 360 just started freezing randomly... the typical checkboard graphics glitch. It's not overheating... I just turned on my cold 360 and it froze after a couple minutes of just being on the dashboard. This 360 is unopened, and has been serviced once before for the RROD. It's out of the 1 year warranty, but still under the 3-year RROD warranty.
Does anyone know if MS will service a freezing console like this for free? At this point it only works for a couple minutes before freezing, so service is a must. I would much prefer to NOT open this Xbox, because I would like to keep this xbox untouched and under the RROD warranty. So if I call support, should I be candid with them about the issue, or would I have better luck telling them I'm getting the red ring? And if I told them that and sent in the Xbox, what are the chances that this issue would get fixed? Im not sure what their testing process is before and after they "fix" the consoles.
Unless you have got a warranty at walmart or so you are out of luck.
Microsoft wont fix it as it will be one red light and E74...
Freezing wont be fixed either as the console is "working".
The problem is scaler chip related.
You can find some information and the fix for it here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=655168
