Heres the deal, I have a 750GB hard drive in my XBOX with all kinds of stuff on it. Its practically full. I've got like 30 full series of cartoons and tons of movies and tons of games and music and pictures, you get the idea lol.

Anyways the XBOX that I put this hard drive in was very old and previously upgraded with a smaller drive for a couple years before I upgraded it and its been used quite extensively for many years now and it finally crashed completely. No error screen nothing, I hit the power button and it comes on for a split second with no video output then it clicks off then back on once or twice and then it starts flashing and its dead, no FTP access, nothing.

Now I still have my eeprom and all that and I also have a spare unmodded xbox in my closet in just like new condition. I want to take my hard drive out of my dead box and install it in there. I'm thinking I can use xboxhdm on the new box and get the backup, then use that to make a new xboxhdm disk. Unlock my 750Gb with my unlock disk install it in the new box and relock it with the new box's back up.

Kinda like a heart transplant lol

My question is, Will this work? and Are there any other ways to go about this?

I already have my eeprom backed up and it was soft modded. I use xboxhdm for my softmods I have an unlock disk for my 750 but I just don't know if I can relock it with the eeprom from the other xbox so that the new xbox will be able to recognize it. I just want to take my 750 out of dead xbox and make it work in the new xbox. So I'm thinking unlock it install it relock it with the new key and it should be good to go. I'm just looking for any way to do this without losing all of the content on the 750GB

It works pretty much the way you described it... Kinda.

Softmod the new system, grab the EEPROM. Unlock the 750gb drive, relock with new EEPROM. Insert in new console.

As locking doesn't mess with the drive contents the stuff on there should remain unchanged. The only issue is whether or not the softmod on the 750gb drive will work in the new console, but you can always have XBoxHDM fix that later if you have problems.

Thanks I figured as much, I'm gonna give it a go after work tomorrow. I have so much shit on that hard drive, I'm getting a terabyte as soon as possible and that still probably won't be enough room lol. Anyways I'll post up how it when once the surgery is complete.

No mention of the softmod used. Ndure softmods use either kernel generic fonts or kernel specific fonts. If the target xbox's kernel version is known beforehand, you can switch to the correct fonts on the original xbox and power off. For Kingroach's Ndure, Ndure toolset e:\ndts\default.xbe has the fonts option to switch it.

Like I said before I use xboxhdm to do my mods. Hotswap style, thats my preffered method I figure if you've got to open it up to install a bigger hard drive anyways might as well do the mod at the same time lol. I've already unlocked my 750GB now I'm modding the new xbox to get the back up to make a new xboxhdm disk to relock the 750 with the new xbox's key. I think it will work.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The operation was a success.

It worked like a charm. I got a Brand New Xbox, with my Same 750GB hard drive installed and all of the data perfectly intact. It fired up just like it always did before ohmy.gif)

YAY!

You took the hard way to do that!!!!!

I have 5 boxes on my network, 1 750GB, 2 250 GB, and 2 oems. They are all the same version, and have all been flashed to the same Eeprom using ConfigMagic. Now if I need to swap a drive it's as simple as that - no unlocking necessary.

If you have the eeprom from the original box flash it to the new box and install the drive. I've done this to every box I've modded so that if they come back to me I don't have worry about lost passwords.......
