This is picture of the front of my modded XBOX
(HA!, apologies for the dust highlighted by the flash!)

IPB Image

As you can see the number one joypad port has part of the case jutting out above it,
this means I am unable to (due to it's shape) to plug an XBOX remote control dongle into the 1st port.

I bought the XBOX from Ebay, already modded about 4 years back.

So my question is this,
is there a way (in BIOS or otherwise) to change the mapping of the controller ports?,
for instance, remap port 1 as 2 and 2 as 1, to facilitate the use of a media remote?

I currently use my controller but I have a remote and it is frustrating to be unable to use it,
hope someone can give me a few poimters in the right direction,
many thanks.

Your remote dongle should work in any of the 4 ports.

I run my both my xboxes controller-less and have my remote dongle plugged into #4.

If you desperately want to have the dongle plugged into #1 - you could always open the case and manually swap the plugs from one and two. Not sure if the wires would reach, but it's an option.

Thanks for your reply,
but I have tried to use the dongle in all 4 ports without success.

If I remember correctly. The controller ports are "Housed" in a piece of plastic. Can be popped out and replaced.

Why not buy the Xerc2 mod and just install that.
That way you can also turn it on from the remote.

If not, you could always hard wire the dongle to port 1
from the inside and move the IR sensor on the dongle
to that little spot on the front left panel, above the blue
X, that's a good spot for the reciever.
I'll look at mine tonight and see if there are any other options.

Thanks for your reply,
but I have tried to use the dongle in all 4 ports without success.
I have the X3 front panel, identical to yours, and all of my remotes (I have tested 20 or 30 of them for friends etc.) work in ports 2, 3 and 4 quite happily.

Consequently either that means your remote dongle is broken (or the remote itself is broken), or your front panel connections were broken when the panel was installed. If you can use a standard controller in all four ports then the wiring is fine, and it's the remote or the dongle that's broken.
