I recently removed my jewel, and the black adhesive that lies underneath....

I have browsed some threads, but need a certain answer for what I should use...
I have a 1.1 XBox... (i think) but sent it back about a year ago for warrenty (I don't think they replaced the jewel?) but anywhoo, after removing the black adhesive, there lies a silvery layer, which is easily scraped off, as shown below.

Just wondering what method I should use to remove the paint, and if I should remove the silver layer first or what... Also if it's going to crack or not smile.gif...

I have turps and some brasso, and live in New Zealand so I might not be able to get some products tongue.gif
Thanks!

If it was mine - I would get some fine grade sandpaper - and sand and sand and sand some more.

Then when the majority of paint is gone - Use brasso to get it crystal clear.

I have turps and some brasso

Both work great. Brasso takes an hour, mineral turpentine takes 5 minutes. They remove the silver stuff as well.

Just be careful about bending the jewel while removing the paint with chemicals. I've seen quite a few people break their jewel using this method, and I'm led to believe that the chemicals do something to the plastic to make it brittle, and much more prone to shattering. Just my $0.02... beerchug.gif

2 cents lol. I used paint turpentine and it worked like a miracle. What glue will you use to keep your jewel on?

LOL, I still have yet to figure that one out. My jewel has been resting on top of the box since I cut the hole for it almost a year ago... I don't want to use hot glue, as it looks like ass, and regular super glue marrs up the plastic. Any ideas?

I used Easy-Off Oven Cleaner! took 20 minutes, then just wiped the paint off leaving a crystal clear jewel!

Unfortunately though, animated sigs aren't allowed here. You'll have to make it static or mods will remove it soon.
