Ok seriously, what the hell is going on? I live in a primarily hardcore Boston fan base area so I love to see NY do well that much more. But with 4 starting pitchers on the DL are they seriously expecting to win every game 15-12? And Leiter??? What was that all about? I mean, logically there was no reason not to get him. I mean his numbers, though bad, were better then all there other spot starters. Plus he's a lefty. AND they got him for nearly nothing. Oh, and lastly, unlike every other option they've had at least you know Al Leiter CAN be good as there have been times in his career when he was.

But I was expecting/hoping that he'd last 5 innings and NY wouldn only be down by maybe 2-3 runs and still have a chance to make a game of it. But there's no way I expected them to do what they did.

So anyones thoughts on the AL East. Im thinking Yankees. To me if they can win now theyll be that much better if they get Pavano and eventually Wright or Wang back. Maybe use Brown or Leiter out of the pen if it gets to that. Though if Baltimore can get an ace to go with Bedard once he gets back it should seriously help. To me Boston needs to seriously address their pitching, mostly their pen. I'm hoping they bring Papelbon up to try and patch the hole. I like the kid and would love to see him pitch.

I was going to make a similar thread but didn't know if anyone would join me....

I'm personally a Jays fan, and I think if they were in any other division in the Majors they would have a chance. But I think Boston and NY will move on when it comes down to it.

When it comes down to who will actually win the AL East? I think Boston. Their offense is just too strong. I think Ortiz is the best big game/pressure batter in the game today, and once they get Schilling back they will have a monster on the mound who can pitch 7+ innings against ANYBODY.

I think if TO could make it to the playoffs they could give anybody a go. They may not have the huge bats but I think they have some underrated defence and the best ace (IMO) in the game today.

EDIT: Just watching sportscentre and realized that Schilling is in fact already back, just thought I would point that out.

Schilling has been the closer for the past few games. Who knows if he will be able to start anytime soon. There are a lot of games left, and we have 4 teams fighting for first. I'm rooting for the yanks, but either way its gonna be a good battle to follow.

Of cource i'm a Jayz fan $2 per game how can you go wrong?

Anyway Jayz have long term goals not short. Dont think they will pull something and grab someone at the deadline. They have too much to lose to do that. They just gotta build their draft picks and hold on to those they allready have.

Yeah I wish I wasn't on vacation I would have went to see my fave team the Mariners they disappointed me this year. As for the Yanks they will be fine with A-Rod, Garry Sheffield, Randy Johnson, Jeter and the rest of their 200 million team. I'm sure they will be contending for the world series this year.

I worry about the Red Sox if they get Burnett. It may help them this year, but it seems that theyd lose too much, Arroyo being a key example. I think Burnett has decent stuff, but am more impressed with Bronson. If he'd just stop releasing CDs and develope a little more as a pitcher I think he'd be a very solid starter. And isn't Wade Miller a wonderful pickup for the Sox this year?

But in the end I still think NY may have an edge. They do have a lot of old players and a lot of injuries. But with Leiter, Johnson, Mussina, and Brown they have 4 starters with rings. Plus Giambis looking like the Giambi of old.

Throw the O's in the mix and I think it's gonna be a hell of a thing to watch. I know I'm more excited about this pennant race then any I can remember.

I think if the Yankees will have a strong 2nd half like always, and they will win the AL East. With Kevin Brown coming off the DL, and if they get someone in to CF to replace Bernie, and with the aquistion of Al Leiter, their defence will hold up much better and then their Offenesive lineup will go to work like always.

Unless they do something stupid and pick up another injury prone older solution... IE Ken Griffey JR. I really would LOVE to see Juan Pierre myself. But I think I just like Juan Pierre

I heard they are aiming for Randy Wynn of the suffering Mairiners. I agree, Juan Pierre would be the perfect lead-off hitter for them, and he has great speed and a great glove in center.

Randy Winn is a good defensive minded player, if the Yanks want a good Center Feilder I would go after Juan Pierre or maybe Torri Hunter if the Twins ever give him up. The thing that is most suprising to me is that the Jays scored the most runs in the A.L. in July and the hottest AL east team is the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The D Rays have a lot of YOUNG talent. Carl Crawford is amazing. Kazmir is phenomenal. A hard throwing lefty witht he slider he has @ his age??? Gathright is incredibly fast. Start adding in guys like Cantu, Gonzalez, and Baez and they're sure to win some games.

I think if they go and get a nice, young power hitter in the off-season, and still keep all their young guns, they could definitly have a chance at the wild card next season.

Who is going to give up a young power hitter? Whoever does is stupid. I think the Jays are going to get the wild card if they keep Vernon Wells and don't trade him to the Nats.

Soriano is gonna be on the move soon. Although i doubt the Devil Rays could handle his salary.

Maybe the blue jays...lol I have a gut feeling he will end up a Yankee again. They need a good 2nd baseman. The got a good 3rd baseman and short stop in Jeter. Then again the Marlins could afford him. I heard Manny wants out of Boston I wonder where he will end up. Seatle should look into to signing him or trading for him
