If you chip the xbox or don't need to lock it, depending on what hdd it is you might even be able to lock it but it still would need to be modded to use it.

A softmod won't do? And err this locking and unlocking stuff I have no idea what you are talking about. What can the ps2 HDD possibly have that wont allow the xbox to use it?

The PS2 hdd is a IDE it is just that certain ones fit the network adapter without having to mod it.
What I was eluding to about the locking issue is the compatibility if wanted to lock the hdd for some that are size compatible for the PS2 (Space between IDE and power) are not lockable by the xbox. Check the XBOX compatibility chart if you want to be able to lock it.

I'm not gonna bother buying another HD so i can put inside the Xbox because x360 is right around the corner. I'll only put another HD in if i happen to stumble across an extra one.
