Going To Japan - Need Some Buying Advice..., Is it just me or is the search function still not working?! Options

Hey all,

I'm from the UK and I'm off to Japan in October (woohoo)! I was gonna cop a controller and maybe some games for my PAL 360, so a couple of questions for you all if I may...

1) Is there a trustworthy and regularly updated list of region free 360 games on the net? I've spotted a few bits and pieces on the web, but nothing conclusive. Was wondering if there was some kind of benchmark site to use for this.

2) I assume the Jap wireless controller will be fine for use in the UK right (as it's USB).

1. The two best region compatibility lists are

2. AFAIK all peripheral hardware is region free, I've never heard of anyone having problems using hardware from one region on a console in another... Just out of curiosity though: why bother? I don't believe their hardware is any different then the hardware from any other region. I could see maybe if there was just unique or rare controller but AFAIK there isn't...

The hardware is all the same.

Trust me. I own various region consoles. Not a problem.. not controllers, not remotes, nothing.

Great shop called Chaos Kan in Akihabara that sells import games, too, if you're anywhere near Tokyo. Good place to get PAL and NTSC-U/C region games, as well as cheap Asia region games.

Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll find that many JPN (do NOT use JAP) games are region locked compared to vice versa.

@ Twisted: I've no idea why I want to get a controller while I'm there now I think of it! Being such a tight arsed bastard, I guess I just think everything is gonna cost less there, seeing as the 360 is so unpopular in Japan. Kind of twisted logic when I look at how much the plane ticket is costing (getting free accomodation at friends) though! Was gonna get some other electronics while I'm there and prolly a DS and some games too I reckon.

ps, search engine hasn't worked for me for ages. Just tried and it is working again! Very strange (using Firefox BTW).

Heh.. No, didn't think you were being a dick, but rather that it's a habit very worth breaking.

Thanks for the list. Interesting. Note that Messe Sanoh is the same as Chaos Kan I mentioned, and they've moved recently (the import section, at least) to just behing Club Sega under the train tracks. I have an issue though with any list that doesn't include Trader 1 and Trader 2, though...

Oh, and NewGuy, that's an old pic that required a year's worth of sign-up for a broadband plan as well. Not a good deal.

Couldn't help but to jump in here... if you are going to buy an Xbox.. i recommend Bic Camera, you can usually find used ones for under 8,000 yen.

For "Chaos" and "Trader" (yes.. GREAT stores for getting English version imports, etc.), here is a decent map:

The advice you received about compatibility between regions for hardware is correct... absolutely interchangeable!

Oh.. and yes, "Jap" is NOT well received here.
