EA Responds to Fox Nonsense about Mass Effect Options

Good job EA for calling out the false statements they made about Mass Effect.

Maybe it's just me but I get a knot in my stomach when I hear EA and Mass Effect in the same sentence. I really hope EA does right by BioWare because their track record is horrendous when it comes to them acquiring developers and franchises. They seem to run just about all of them into the ground. Just look at the new Burnout game. Take everything that is great about Burnout and throw it out and leave all the mass consumable crap. I might as well be playing Need for Speed (another franchise that was run into the ground) or Test Drive Unlimited. And this is Criterion who appearently have the same type of interaction with EA as the BioWare group will. I know I'm off topic but EA's Mass Effect.. ugh!

Alright, my real reason for posting. I think EA made a good point by comparing it to television. Kids watch stuff they shouldn't and stuff their parents don't want them to. It happens all the time, and even in the same way that parents don't know how to do the a parental ratings lock on a game console, they don't know how to block programming on a TV. They can't waste the time how to learn how to use the V-chip.

So then it is lost sales from people who would not have purchased the game anyway because if they believed the media then they would also not have purchased the game simply because of the M rating (it would be against their moral values, yes even bad language, guns, sex, crime etc etc)

So where are these lost sales? Is it more that they lose more money fighting frivolous lawsuits.. this I can see however this happens to these large companies all the time and you never hear about them again.

I am not meaning to argue I really do agree with everyone here.. I again am just thinking (probably my downfall )

What do you not understand? This is about stopping negative publicity before things get out of hand and affects sales, not that it's already affecting sale. Simple things like negative publicity can and does in fact sway alot people from buying products. EA is simply trying to head off any problems before people are mislead.


People are hypocrits, they'll buy a M rated game with alot of violence then complain if there's nudity in it. The problems Rockstar games had with Grand Theft Auto-San Andreas is a shining example of that hypocracy.. That game was actually taken off the shelves of alot of stores for awhile, which therefore means people could not buy it, therefore affecting sales. Rockstar in turn lost millions, and that doesn't even count the lawsuits. (Do a internet search on "rockstar games financial Hot Coffee" if you don't believe)

This is a great reason I don't watch Fox news...that clip on Kotaku is just ridiculous. Like Fox gives a rip what people see on TV? Kids watch violent shows with sex scenes all the time on popular channels.

EA makes more games than just Mass Effect. Their sports games are what started their company. If their 'brand' becomes labled as 'porn-ridden', then when parents are buying the next sports game for their child, they may avoid EA (but not because 2K is better).

You're the one that brought up lost sales. It's possible that sales wouldn't be impacted at all but that still doesn't give FOX the right to slander their game. There are very few companies with a decent sized wallet that would let something like this go.

I cannot believe how closed minded people still are in 2008. Sex and nudity in this context is not the child killer they say it is. The so called expert on there is so completely disrespectful and arrogant. How is her behavior any better than the so called 'sex' in the game? If anything her behavior is so much more damaging to society because it leads to segregation and violence because no one respects others beliefs.

If your life is shallow and worthless, by all means read this book. Filled with enough (mis)information that it would make undergrad sociology student puke, this lame, derivative and worthless author is a shining beacon of what happens when something thinks way too much about themselves. I'd say shame on Cooper Laurence, but the words are too big and dang it, she just wouldn't understand. Maybe if I drew a picture in crayon with all the R's reversed.... Much like her other books, Been There Done That force feeds her nonsense down your throats. I haven't actually read the book, but judging from its cover I'm sure it's filled with hardcore pornography.

I haven't actually read this but I'm under the impression that it is nothing but pernicious, misogynistic pornography of the lowest order. I'm told that there are explicit sexual passages where women debase themselves for the pleasure of men and reveal themselves to be nothing more than toys for men's sexual gratification. Experts say that books like these actually deform women's and men's minds and lead them down the road toward violent sexuality, rape and perversity. In fact, I'm not sure why we allow books at all. Who can trust them if they're not monitored for offensive content by a government agency? Is this book rated? How will we keep it out of the hands of children?
