I am very sorry if this was already posted but I didn't see any info anywhere, I was wondering if there was any way to have an old S controller work for a 360? Or even an S shell to put the 360 components into? I have really big hands and that new controller is just too small 4 me. I did read that "read me" stickey but I still wanted to ask about the controller shells.

You'd have to stuff the 360 controller board into an S-controller shell. I've messed around with that project a little, but put it on the back burner to work on other things. It's gonna be a pretty rough mod to pull off and still have a controller that can stand up to the average gamers abuse.

welll i think the first step would to be for YOU to take an s shell and stuff 360 controller guts inside. Doncha think? you would have to relocate the tact switches for the RB and LB buttons. IDK off hand but is the s controller a little bigger than the 360 controller? if it is then at least you have a little room to work with...

but seriously. take shit apart... that the only way you'll know... i don't think anyone has sucessfully pulled it off. but if you wait around here someone's going to tell you it can't be done.

impossibility is just the state of mind before one conquers.

just try it.

Ok well thank you for the kind answer. I appreciate it.

Well, i'm not going to "take shit apart" just yet as you so eloquently put it. The reason I came here was to see if it could be done or was done yet. If not, its cool...I will not do it until I see someone else has because my skills in this matter are next to none. I am not ready to conquer this just yet.

You're Welcome

It can be done, it's just the mechanics of it are really a mess. The 360 Wired controller board just about fits in the S shell (the shell or board, maybe both WILL have to be modified), the bonus is the D-pad and A,B,X,Y buttons all line up, so that part's taken care of. The 360 controller is pretty much the same size as the S-controller, as far as how far the sticks and A,B,X,Y buttons are laid out, the shell is just smaller.

If you don't have any expertise in using the Dremel and messing with what I'm sure will be a slew of different materials (glues, plastic, ect.) then I'd stay away from trying it for sure, you'll just end up with 2 wrecked controllers. I'm gonna mess with this some more now that I've seen more than a few people wondering about it, though it won't be something that gets done in a few days by far.

nope there is a special chip on all licensed 360 peripherals that encodes the output of each device

the only exceptions to this are keyboards

Asked a million times and it wont work just by connecting it to the 360, the 360 controller is so much better anyhow, not as bulky and fits nice in the hands. Just paint a 360 controller black and maybe you will feel better. it can be done, but all the work you would have to go through to get it to work would be a pain in the ass.

Then wouldn't the S be too small? Wasn't it something like S for small?

The S is smaller then the Duke on the original Xbox but it's still substantially larger then the 360 controller.

Why not just go buy an aftermarket 360 controller, they have big ones.

Again thank you for the kind answer and this was actually very informative to me because I didn't know anything really lined up, I figured it was close. Me and a Dremel um...no lol. If this ever does get done though I will pay to have it done for me for sure.

Better in your opinion. For me it sucks the S was just right. The duke? Well...I don't really need a controller as big as a toaster.
