I always wondered about the following, lets say a game company creates a
pretty good game, so it gets a lot of ports to consoles like :
Snes, Genesis, 32X, Saturn, PS1, Gameboy, Gamegear, PC, Amiga..

now lets say all those ports werent really good because of the limitations of the consoles/portables.

wouldnt it be possible to somehow contact one of the porters who still has the source code?
i mean i always read about porters who say "yeah i found my old sourcecode on my old pc" etc..

so wouldnt there be a chance someone would still have the sourcecode from the original arcade game?

cough Mortal Kombat 2 sourcecode cough

I dont think this is bad to talk about since i'm talking about a game from 1993,
but if it is then please just delete my thread.

Probably isn't the most legal way of bring a game to the Xbox, but hey, if no one gets hurt, no one cares...right?

Well for one i'd think Midway should thank me!
afterall they claimed to have lost the sourcecode for MK2 dry.gif

But after digging a little more i think i pretty much pasted together who did what
and which teams ported MK2 back in the day.

First MK Team created MK2 for Midway then Midway gave the publishing rights to Acclaim,
then Acclaim got 2 outside teams to port the game to all the major consoles and portables.

(under license by Acclaim)
Sculptured Software = Snes

(under license by Acclaim)
Probe Software = Genesis/32X/Mastersystem/Amiga/Saturn/PC/Gameboy/Gamegear
damn they gave almost everything but the snes to Probe, must have been a big team to handle all those ports.

(Tartan Team under license by Probe, Probe under license by Acclaim Japan)
Tartan Team = Playstation
I dont know whats up with this, apparantly Acclaim Japan asked Probe for an MK2 port to PS1,
but instead of porting it themselves Probe had Team Tartan do all the work.

Thats 3 teams who handled the source.. and somehow Midway still claims to have lost the source code,
maybe i was just hoping for some MK2 Xbox live action or a real port with options and perhaps a couple of extra secrets..
(it would have been so nice to been able to load MK2 from my dashboard right away, with a nice dragon logo and stuff)

Also i know nobody gives a crap about my crusade, but atleast it was an interesting read tongue.gif
(i'm an MK freak, its my job to write this kinda stuff)
