Hi Everyone.

After a recent power outage (the 6th one in about 3 hours) my 360 is no longer playing nice.

When i turn it on, the bottom left quadrant flashes constantly giving me an E64 error.
Thing is, when I disconnect the DVD ROM drive, i can boot to the screen where I select my profile, but with the drive it's constant E64.

Without the DVD ROM drive i can also access all the normal dashboard features, although the xbox seems to warp like crazy between the menus.

I thought it might have been a DVD ROM drive issue and used a spare one exactly the same as mine, but it still errors.

Any suggestions? I can't really justify buying another xbox, i've been through so many ;_;.

I had an e64 this last weekend that I could not figure out. It too would work fine without the DVD drive connected. I messed with it forever. I finally tried changing the DVD power and sata cables and it worked. Probably just a fluke that it worked for me but it's worth a try I guess.

That might be worth a try, thanks, although I have no spare power cable, I do have a few SATA cables lying about.

EDIT: Problem most likely found, discovered a blown capacitor when I opened the 360 up.

This is normal after 6 power failures in 3 hours!!! smile.gif
Replace the capacitor, but have in mind that you might more components, malfunctioning there. If all go well and you repair it, install a power stabilizer between your xbox and the power socket. Just to be safe for the future.

Haha, yeah, something in the kitchen was repeatedly tripping the breakers when it was being used (suspecting a faulty kettle!).

I have no soldering skill at all, so replacing the capacitor is going to be a problem, but I'm gonna give it a go anyway, really nothing to lose at this point.

Remember to make your life easier... use fresh solder on the capacitor legs, to make the old factory made solder goes to melting point easier and faster. Otherwise you will get burned smile.gif
