The way you test the mod is by seeing if the top of the spindal is magnetic, which it should be, then throw in a copy of Advent Rising like shown in the pic(really any rushed game that has not multiplayer will do) then test. I don't know about any other drives but the thommie. Oh and Advent just got traded in for GTA: SA, BTW.

hmm, this is kinda old...
made a full dvd window with shit spinner a big while ago

picture of my thomson full dvd window

and did a better full dvd window on my philips, with more usefull spinner. I pasted my own logo on top of the spinner so i could see that one spin.

but just removing the cap also works out i guess....

taboo because every tut I have read about dvd windows say that you should place a sticker or glue down the metal plate for some reason, also I have looked at most of the xboxs in the scene I have not seen one person that just said screw the stupid metal plate and removed it.

Don't turn your xbox upside down/sideways while the dvd tray is ejected; the spindle will fall out and rattle about your xbox, and dvd's will not play. When the DVD is ejected, the whole motor and laser assembly moves down, losing contact with the spindle.

What you ought to do is put a piece of clear plastic over it.

^ WTF are you smoking, why the hell would I play Kirby's tilt and tumble with my xbox while the tray is ejected. This mod works for thommies, I have had this mod longer than Halo 2 has been out and I have had no problems yet.

And yeah the paint job is horrible. But since I have abandoned that xbox for my new one I have stopped working on it, maybe in the future I will go back and fix it.
