Hi,
I was wondering that is there any linux porjects for PS3 that is aiming to make it a complete mediacenter? So that the second OS would boot up just like XBMC when using it as a dashboard?

I’ve seen something kicking around called MegaBOX for the PS3 it claims to be the next XBMC for the PS3 and easy to load etc no Linux to install and configure, although I believe it is built from a Linux distro. Google it and check it out.

Yeah Megabox seems to be the way to go, but I dont think it is stable yet nor is there a real website for keeping up to date with it.

As mentioned earlier, the GPU (graphics hardware) is locked in otherOS. Theres not enough power to render via software. You might get some less demanding codecs running close to smooth, but XViD -> h264 would never work well enough for it to be worth it. Theres far better solutions already out there, i.e popcorn hour or other NMT-based media solutions.
Ofcourse it would be great to have a working mediacenter on PS3 but I doubt it will work well enough to be worth it.
