Hello! I just bought an Xbox used from Gamestop with three games for a very cheap price. I just found out that it also has a modchip in it. After ALOT of research I've found out that it is a Apple-X V2 chip and it's probably very old.

Upon booting up I assume it is Evolution X installed and in the lower right corner it says RemoteX V1.8.2812.

Am I able to update Evolution X or is this chip too old? Should I get a new chip or does this one work well?

I am posting this because I can't find much information through google about Apple-X V2. Help me, please!

You are in the wrong section. This is the TSOP flashing section..... mad.gif

Do you mean Apple-X VII? It is important, because the newer versions of the Apple chips can be reflashed, while the older ones can't. Have a look at the pictures linked at the bottom of this table to confirm which chip you have, then look at the table to see if it can be reflashed.

However, that isn't related to your question directly. You are confusing the BIOS and the dashboard. The chip (and the BIOS on it) have nothing to do with the dashboard - you can run any dashboard you like, just install it at C:\evoxdash.xbe.

However, before you do that, do some other things first. Confirm the chip version, make sure you can boot a rescue disc e.g. HeXEn (Google Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc) or Slayers, burned to DVD-R. Also run BIOSChecker to confirm which BIOS you are running.

I wasn't sure which forum to put this in.

It is this chip:

I had to use the wayback internet machine because the site is dead. It says "Flash upgradable".

Please don't quote the immediately preceding post.

You should have posted in Newbie chat, or in All other Alternative Modchips and Cheapmods.

Is that the EXACT chip you have? If so the it would seem to be flashable, which is good, but don't do that just yet. Sort out a rescue disc, and run BIOSChecker.

I can't do that right now. My controller is broken and I am getting a new one on friday. Anyway, I took a picture of my modchip and added the pictures of Apple-X V1 and V2. I can't see the difference between them though.

Here is the picture:

Any ideas?

Additional Info. I managed to run BIO Checker 5.0:

CHIP TYPE: LPC based (SST 49LF020)

Using genuine BIOS: EvoX 3.6 (EjectFix)

And now you're needlessly quoting your own immediately preceding post.... grr.gif

That's an old BIOS, with a couple of issues:
- no Error 16 fix
- no LBA48 support for large disks

If your chip is a v2 then it should be flashable. Evox M8+ or iND-BIOS.5003 would be a good choice. If you don't feel like taking the chance (flashing can occasionally go wrong, especially with a chip with little documentation!) then just replace the dashboard (C:\evoxdash.xbe) with either UnleashX (renamed evoxdash.xbe) or the Team XBMC shorcut, with the config edited to point to your XBMC installation.

HeXEn (Google Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc, burn to DVD-R at 4x or slower) will flash the BIOS and set up the dash for you.

Thanks!

I should be good on my own now. Really, thanks for all the help even though I've been slightly annoying.

No, I'm just slightly grumpy most of the time. Post back if you run into trouble. smile.gif
