Yes I am a newbie. But I've been doing some homework. All I want to do is make "backups" of games to play on my xbox. I'm not interested in doing anything but that. No saving of games or movies on the HD, no loading of linux or anything like that.

Here is what I have figured out about my xbox (thanks to this site):
My xbox is V 1.1, 4817 to be exact
I have a phillips dvd drive

I have a DVD-RW drive installed in my computer. I also purchased DVD X Copy Gold which I have read it can copy xbox and PS2 games, althought this was not on the companies website.

I have read alot about mod chips and different types of bios and dashboard programs. I would just like to know what kind of mod chip would be easiest to install and what other programs I would need, if any, to play the "backup" copies. If anyone out there can take the time to help me out it would be a big help to me.

Nope. You can ONLY back up Xbox games by using your PC. You have to send the Xbox game to your PC from your Xbox using FTP. Then, go about making the xISO and burning it.

DVD XCopy Gold will NOT read XBox discs.

Probably the easiest way to play backups is install a no solder mod chip. If you are good with software then go to the "Game Save Exploit" section, I think you can play backups after installing the exploit.

I'm a newbie also, and was not interested in new dashboards etc. Just wanted to play back-ups like you. Here's what I did.

Bought a matrix no solder chip. (would probably go with Chameleon now).

Flashed it with the supplied programmer with evoxd6.blue bios.

Installed in Xbox.

Swhitch to always on mode.

Boot up xbox and verified blue X.

That's it. I have never had a problem playing a back-up copy.

You don't really need a dashboard, emulators etc unless you really want to get involed in the mod scene.

Hope this helps. beerchug.gif

if you just want to play "backup", use easy Phoenix bios loader V 1. It just came out today and so easy to setup without opening your xbox.
