I read recently that standard XBOX drives read original discs backwards. Does this mean that the disc spindle motor is going backwards or the data is written backwards and then reversed in software once read. I ask cause I am interested in changing my drive and want to know why you HAVE to use 616 drives etc.

If the data is read backwards, how is it possible to copy games on to blank media and have that run fine in a non stock drive on an XBOX.

Help would be much appreciated. blink.gif

Not sure they are read backwards, isn't it the gamecube that does that?

After reading the replies I have had so far, I now understand the ways discs are read. My question now is can a Samsung Bios be used with another manufacturers drive. After all they all do the same job.
