I'm having some problems getting my PC to boot correctly. It boots to windows but then it only loads the wallpaper and doesnt finsh booting the desktop items or startup taskbar. I can get access to everything by using the task manger.

boot up the computer holding down F8, choose Last Know Configuration. if that doesn't work, go to Safe Mode, and do a system restore.
Last good config. is the same, and the system restore feature is not working(didnt work before either) so I guess my only choice is reform? Will it save my documents? I think last time it did

Don't reformat just yet. Boot from the XP disk. Go through the option to install it to a clean partition. I will detect that the OS is already installed and ask you if you want to repair it. Do this.

I have had system restore work sometimes, it's worth a try. You could run msconfig and try stoping startup items and reboot. <I've seen a messed up Anitvirus app cause this> Or try in task manager killing the explorer.exe thread and rerunning it from the run in task manager after it exits.

try this: go to safe mode, put in the winXP disc, in the run command, type "sfc /scannow". this checks all the critical system files and restores corrupted files.

So I killed explorer.exe and ran it again and that worked but it doesnt stay that way it goes but to the something after a restart. So what the hell do to fix explorer.exe? Thanks for all the help so far
