I found black Samsung 616T's for $33.50 ($41.89 after S&H) at Compuvest.com.

Hope this makes somebody's day biggrin.gif

Thanks for the heads up.

As of today, I am the proud owner of a soon to be modified, black 616t. On the other hand, it's a shame that UPS decided to rape me with their ludicrous brokerage fee. dry.gif

I ordered one a couple days ago, so it should be here next week. It is advertised as 616t so it better be one. I'll send it back and tell them to refund shipping, for false advertising.

What are the chances of a NON-t or f 616 to be modded? My guess is none, but maybe things have changed...

Well, my drive arrived today... and I'm a little uneasy.

First off, the item# shown on my invoice matches the NON 616T that compuvest has on their site.

Second, the sticker on the TOP of the drive, says Samsung DVD Master 16E MODEL SD-616.

BUT... on the bottom is a long rectangular sticker that reads:

SD-616T/DWR 6RET718580 F/W=F308

which makes me think maybe it's a T... can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance,
subdigital

subdigital,

Check what it says below that. Does it say Ver.T? Then it's a T. Also if you open it up and look at the main PCB, if it says 616F, you're good.

I opened it up, and voila! SD-161F written on the PCB! Woohoo!

So, www.compuvest.com DID in fact have the drive, but be cautious, because now on their website it shows the T model as sold out. I received the one just marked SD-616 and lucked out, but I wouldn't guarantee the others would also be T's.

If this helps anyone:
The item # for the SD-616T at compuvest is: CDDVD-40082
The item # for the SD-616 at compuvest is: CDDVD-40081 (which turned out to be a T)

Thanks! I will probably post pics of my modifcation when I do it....

I got and modified my 616T and its a damn beauty, except for the fact that i am a jackass. I cut a bit of the case away in order to get a nice stock fit into the xbox. a piece of this metal fell into the case (unknown to me) and lodged itself in my psu. I turned the box on and snap...smoke... kaput... my xbox goes off. i thought it was my 160 gb hdd at first, but that seemed fine, so i went to the psu. after finding and removing the cuplrit, the psu works just fine, i took a voltmeter to all of the connections, and i get my 12 volt, my 5 volt, my 3.3 volt, and i dunno about the small guage wires, but i assume its ok. the only thing left is the mobo. it might be that because no bios boots, and the fans dont come on. any ideas?

ordered a 616t from them... ended up being a b which apparently is akin to the 616f... drive won't flash either... not to mention it was on "backorder" for 2 weeks...they didn't respond to my emails.. finally called them on monday and they said it was shipping out that very day... i will most definately not do business w/ this site again.
