I'm really starting to hate my job. I work as a Surveillance Supervisor at a Small Casino in Canada. Currently we have no Surveillance Manager, and I'm running the whole department by myself. We are short staffed and I'm working like a dog trying to keep everything together. My boss won't help me at all. I need more staff, new equipement and another Supervisor to help me. To top it all off I was never offered the Acting Manager Position which would come with a higher pay cheque. I feel my career is going no where. The last Manger and Supervisor got fired. If anything goes wrong they would fire me in a second.

Here is the problem. I make a lot of money here. If I quit I need to be able to make enough money to support my family. I got a wife and 2 kids. I don't have any savings or anything. I have 5 years experiance here at the Casino. But this was my first real job.I took a year of Computer training before I started here.

What would be a good way to make money? Is there anyway I can start a career that involves playing video games? I would love to be able to play video games for a living. Since I'm so busy I never get time to play anymore. Seriously, I'm looking for some suggestions for a new career. I want to quit as soon as possible. I would quit tommorow if I could afford it but Chirstmas is coming.

Best bet is to start saving up money now.
Also highly unlikely to find a good paying job merely playing videogames unless you're at the level where yiou can win against the 'pros.'

Hmm, I don't think I'm good enough to beat the pro's. I'm more into RPG's. There must be someway to make money playing games for a living.

Maybe if you were 22 and single that would be something to look at, but you have a family man. I would rather have a sucky job and be able to provide for family with no worry then worry about a job & money and have a rocky road with my family.

I find your post partially immature. I have a wife and kid myself, and if I had a job that had an official title at all, I'd keep it like it was my last breath. A job with a nice title will always be a better reference than one that has a crappy title. If you're gonna quit, you'd damn well better have another job lined up, then file with your current job that you're leaving on such-and-such date, which shouldn't leave more than a week's gap between quitting your old job and getting the new one.
You have a family, and you're asking about if you can make money playing video games? Just how far do you have your head shoved into your ass? I'm sorry, man, but that's really fucking immature. If you got a family, you should count your lucky stars that you got the money to afford gaming at all, not to count time. There's virtually no job market in the gaming world, either as a player or reviewer. It's kind of a job you get in College and accept because you've got nothing else to do- I've never heard of a story of someone going into it as an actual money-making career. How much do you think you could get paid to review in a magazine, for example? Not too much, man. Those guys still live off Ramen most of the time, for Christ's sake.
Hell, I joined the Navy to support my wife and daughter, and you're talking about recessing into childhood and tossing the welfare of your family into the toilet? I'm sorry to be so mean, but grow the fuck up. You're an adult- either keep your job or have another one lined up, like said above. Forget anything in the field of video games as a 'career', as you won't find one that can pay anything near to what your time must be worth.

The way BUSH'S economy is right now, I HIGHLY recommend you don't take any dangerous risks and stay at your job that you have right now...work on side projects, even invest in opening up your own business WHILE YOU ARE STILL WORKING in your current profession

Asking career advice from a console gaming forum is pretty stupid. A large % of people here are probably still in school.

As LDW says, the welfare of your family must come first. Playing games is a fucking hobby, not a career. The only advise I would give you is talk with your wife about possible career changes and / or meet with whoever you currently report to and explain your situation to them. If you're good at your job, it may just be that they would rather promote you than lose you.

Grow up. Think of your kids future. dry.gif

Forgot about that point. The Presidential Retard has practically decimated our economy. Right now is a bad, bad time to have a career change.
I hope you don't take my ravaging words too harshly, but you're talking to someone who had to give up college for family, and it always pisses me off to see someone worry about their welfare before factoring in the children, not to mention the wife's opinion (who should be your equal, if you have anything more than a parody of a marrage). It seems that folk like me, who understand the sacrifice of family, are dwindling in numbers compared to those who still think they can act as if they're in High School and have either their parents or everyone else (i.e. Welfare) pay the tab.
Note to those about welfare: it's acceptable when it's used as help. It's not when it's used as a crutch. Just wanted to clairify.

I know that you're still essentially a kid in HS, mike, so I won't rag on you too hard. But I doubt that pays enough to support a family when I hear about people in the gaming buisness currently or in the past bitch that they were living off Ramen when they didn't have to pay more than Rent and utilities.

The point I'm making is to not encourage him to make an exremely selfish decision, mike.... please use some of that intelligence you rant about repeatedly next time to read between the lines.
