I Apparently have a new Philips Dvd drive in my xbox v1.4, as it looks nothing like my friends philips dvd drive in his xbox v1.1

Can anyone confirm whether there is a new philips dvd drive in the new xboxes??

If so, does anyone have a tweaking tutorials for the new philips dvd drive?

Thanks

Nope, you've gotta figure that out yourself; every drive differs from one another, evne if they're of the same make, and thus one pot setting probably won't work for someone else.

As a note; those who are asking how to tweak their drives: Have you even looked in the Tutorials section os Xbox Scene? :|

I just ran into this too...won't read any cheap dvd-r's. Will read cd-r's and (what I think is) Ritek dvd-r. Otherwise you get slow BIOS(takes forever for Xecuter2 to come up under the logo) then dash with "cannot recognize disc error" [I get this with Xtreme 4x dvd-r] OR Xecuter2 never shows...waited ~2min. for it [get this with any Princo dvd-r].

(Addendum)
Almost forgot, this will always boot the disc I think is a Ritek but it crashes sometimes...the good ol' "There is something wrong the disc you are using...it may be dirty or scratched". Memorex 24x cd-r's always boot and run flawlessly.

Bought the box new yesterday (12/14/03) in Delaware, USA.
Manufacture plant code is 05. (Piss me off, got a Sammy in a box with 05 two weeks ago.)

Here's the vitals since no one posted yet.

New Philips DVD-Rom Drive:
Model #: VAD6035/21
Customer Part #: X00624-005
Factory Code: 8VU
Mfg. Date: W334 - August - 2003

If you're looking at the laser from the front of the XBox, there are 2 pots on the PCB behind the lens. (gonna try to ascii it here):

___ ___
| P1| | P2|
----------------------------------
| |
| LENS |
| |
----------------------------------
Front of XBox

Measurements:
P1 = 551 Ohms
P2 = 988 Ohms

If I knew which pot to try, I'd go for it...most likely we can deduce which one it is if someone out there can give readings from the old Philips pots.

LOL, ascii never works on message boards...but you should get the idea.

someone needs to malke this a sticky or bring it out in the open more.
the philips WILL NOT play
ritek g03's ---- princos 1x ---- optodisc 1x discs ---- princo dvdrw's --- or some other generic media i tried...
those are all - dvd'rs. i tried one dvd+ to test (memorex) and it wouldnt take either...
read cdrw's though....
i wrote all the info down from a previous samsung and the three philips i got... i dont know what the number mean (serial id etc...) but all the phillips were the same while the samsung varied greatly in numbers (5 days in manufacturing difference)....
i hope this isnt the new protection, but the word needs to get out cause this would be one hell of a protection, and people are gonna be getting screwed who get them...
peace

Can't be sure, but I think my original reading for my Philips were around 600 Ohms, so it's probably P1, but no guarantees here.

Yeah, this blows mad.gif
Looks like Bill Gate$ is the grinch this year.

But this should be front page news here.
Big, big news and all we see is Fake X2's and the good ol' propaganda about another weak Xecutor revision tongue.gif

I'm gonna report this to an op to try and get it in the news.
Looks like we'll see a ton of people in the stores digging for 06 XBox's. laugh.gif

For reference.. I have a 1.0 Xbox and a first generation Philly drive.

I apologize for the shitty pics, but they are really old. IF you guys need better pics, I will take apart the box and snap some more but hopefully these will be good for now, just to get an idea of the shape of the drive or whatever.

Reads CD-RW and even some CD-R like a charm. Not sure about DVD media.

Oh yeah, i'll give this a temp pin as well.

If any of you guys have a new philly dirve, post pics so people can see the difference. Lets keep this thread informative and productive smile.gif

i'm not sure if its just my philips dvd drive..

but it'll read any dvd-r aslong as its a maxmax..

so if u have a dvd writer... try burn some xbox games on maxmax cd and tell me whether the philips can play it.

i forgot to reply to this hedstrosity =( you know how its been busy and all. i can release a tut on how to fix this. but along with everything... i dont like to play with the OHM to much because the idea of burning out a laser scares me... since it would be over worked... as long as people can use CD-RW, mod chips can still come with that cromwell bios cause you can still flash em... i cant wait till MS decides to make the drives only read xbox games and not even CD-RW's.

Does the new Phillips have the same CD-Tray as the old Phillips? e.g. making it easier to spot.

I modded a friends 2month old Xbox on the weekend, He had a Phillips drive and it worked fine on my CDRW and Bulkpaq DVD-R. Must had been an older type.
