I really hope someone can give me a clue here cos it is doing my head in.

Got my XBit the other day and flashed it with 2 new Bios's. I put the chip in my box and the bloody thing dont work. I have tried everything in the book. All DIP-Switch combo's. Scraping the D0 (I hate the D0). But still no LED on the External board. I know the D0 is now connected because i tested it with multi-meter (gives a short blast of volts on turning on the box). Anyone got any other ideas i could try.

Cheers dudes. beerchug.gif

As far as i know the LED doesn't show if the chip is installed correctly, but only if it gets power.
So maybe you dont have real contact to all the points....

I did think this myself, so i tested every connection with a multimeter. Most pins give 3.xV, there is a 5V, a 0.2V and a ground. All of which are correct with the info i found somewhere nocking about (cant remember exactly). This one has really got me going.

If your sure all the connection are ok and the dip switches are set for the right bank, then i think you have a duff chip. Double check the installation, move the xbit about a bit you should hear it click when is correctly in the D0. Test again, if still no joy send it back for a replacment.

Just to let you guys know, i managed to get it working. Turned out it was a bad flash. Re-flashed with freshly d/l BIOS (put a coloured logo on as well to make sure) and it works a treat. I'm pretty much an expert on these thing now so if anyone got a prob, let me know. I know all the D0 tips, how to test the connections with a multimeter so your constantly taking your box apart and putting it back together. Oh well, off to play some more.

Please tell us, at least I want to know how to check if the d0 is connected properly. (I have had som problems with my chip, I have returned it but if it turns out to be ok then I need to test the connections)

Well, basically, once you have got the chip in place and you think you have the D0. Use a multi-meter to test it. Set it to 10/20 V DC, put the negative (black) lead on the screw that hold the chip down. And the positive (red) lead on the back of the Do pogo pin. Which one of the depends which version your box is. Just look when you align the chip to see which one connects. Now, with them 2 held in place, watch the reading and switch the box on. you should notice a short blast of volts as the bios is requested. If you get no fluctuation at all then the D0 is not connected properly and could prbably do with a little gentle scraping. If this makes no sense then let me know and i will try putting it in different terms.
