Get a better internet connection.

Ping depends mostly on your upstream rate, which is often capped to 128kbits (16kbytes / sec).
Get yourself a connection that lets you upload at 640kbits (80kbytes/sec).

Have a look at this site too, they have some registry tweaks and patches, depending on your broadband connection type (cable or DSL)

Ping is also affected by your distance from the remote host and your route to the host (number of hops). You probably either live in a rural area or have a cheap ass ISP who is routing you all over the place.

Anyone working on a version of Tracert for the XBOX?
