I have the xtender v1.0 chip, obviously needs to be upgraded, A) Because all of this freaking "patching" and (cool.gif Because it does NOT support a larger hard drive.

I assume the Matrix has all the bells and whistles and since it is solder free is the obvious choice?

At the same time I would like to upgrade my hard drive but be able to "switch" to my original HD for live play.
In an ideal world I would have 1 or 2 switches mounted externally which would allow me to swap between my (modded-bios and ms bios) and (modded hd and ms hd). Does this make sense?

I see some sort of external housing for the hard drives with a switch to toggle booting, hooked up via a IDE cable running out of the xbox. Is there a FAQ which has something on housing and an appropriate switching mechanism?

As far as the modchip disable goes, it looks like this is built in to the Matrix, does the case have to be open to flip the switch or can the switch be mounted externally?

Thanks..

TA

Thanks..

This looks pretty sweet, about $65.00 on-line at the big retailers. I am thinking of getting a 3 high bullet box, mounting this unit along with a 120GB drive and my standard XBOX drive. Just hit the big button to booth between each drive! You can add 3 Hard Drives in all! 360GB of gaming storage should set anyone up for a spell (:

well, i could be mistaken, but i think you can go on xbox live with your chip switched to off, and if the switch is on off, then that takes care of the bios/chip detection. i read somewhere that if you lock your bigger hd, then it will work with the original bios. and i'm pretty sure there is a tutorial on how to lock the hd somewhere in the forum, or on the main xbox-scene page.

well right now its easy to get on Live with a modified HD that can use the original BIOS. However it would be really easy for them to check if you have a HD bigger than 8 GB and I'm sure they'll start doing it soon.

The Trios HD selector TedAppleBerry mentioned does work with the Xbox, but there is a twenty second delay between switching from the drives as shown by this tutorial

Probably not that big a deal if you only switch once in a while to get on XBL.

That tutorial mentions a way to have 4 HDs in a custom enclosure. Its a pretty hardcore tutorial and I know I don't have the skills, tools, or time to do something like that. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Just saw out the 3.5" enclosures from an old PC case... pain in the ass, certainly not pretty-- but it'll work!

Personally I used an old UPS case for my external enclosure, painted it black, added several LEDS (One for power, one for each hard drive) I looks pretty slick, I'd take some pictures but my digi cam is at work at the moment.
