i tryed using dvd2xb , but when i tryed playing the movie, there was just a bunch of files, none of which would really work. so my question is, how do you make a working backup of a dvd movie, without using a pc, or is it even possible? if its not possible to do this without a pc, how do you do it with a pc that doesnt have a dvd rom drive. someone please help me, i would really appreciate it, thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love.gif

Yeah my tutorials a little out of date now though.

I'm also having a problem sort of related to this question..

I'm looking at using the newest version of DVD2Xbox to copy and decrypt a movie DVD over a network using the new samba sharing capabilities of .54 as I don't have much space on my xbox hard drive, and of course no dvd in my pc. I'm kind of confused what samba is, is it a client run from the xbox or some software for the pc?? (or both?) Is there any guides anywhere on how to set up DVD2Xbox and Samba so I can copy my DVD movies straight to my PC?

Thanks for help anyone.

you could do this, yeah its a pain, but hey what to you want:
insert dvd into xbox
copy files to a folder on pc via ftp
use any dvd movie decrypter that supports dvd movie folders..
play your decrypted movie
btw, i just use windows media player (updated) to play the .vob files and it plays just like a dvd movie in a dvd player.

im sort of a newbie on the whole dvd scene, so understand my innonence.
hopefully you guys can suggest a better way, but i was just letting you know what works for me. (by the way i do have a dvd drive and just provided the info above for people without dvd drives in their pcs)

So doesn't anyone know the answer to my question? How do you set up samba etc so you can rip and decrypt DVD movies straight to a networked PC with the newest DVD2Xbox?

I have a similar problem... I dont always have access to the dvd movie i want to copy and my pc, so I use my xbox as storage. After I rip the movie to the HD with dvd2xbox I ftp the files over to my pc, but when I try to use Shrink DVD to make the movie small enough to burn on a DVDR it comes up with errors... like dvd2xbox isnt copying all the files off the disc. Anyone know whats up with this? or has tried it?

sorry i dont have any samba info for ya.. thats new to me. HDs are cheap now... its worth it to put one in your xbox. IMO.

Well why dont you just use ftp to rip the files direct to your xbox hard drive? Im assuming a good ftp program will work better than dvd2xbox.
