I'm about to trade my PS2 that hardly gets any use for a Xbox in the hopes of modding it to use as a media PC. Mainly to watch backed up DVDs on.
Now the guy checked and told me its a Thomson drive If its pretty slim I dont think its worth the effort to trade I guess. Thanks guys |

why don't you just try one in it first? i guess you're trading online.
i played an apple dvd-r in it and it worked fine. you could get a bigger hard drive and put them all on that. that's what i've done. you can encode them all into divx, with no noticable loss of quality. each would take up around 1GB. |

Just so you know, an neither xbox nor PS2 needs to be modded to read a burned DVD. And if it does have a thomson drive, I wouldn't recommend the trade. You could sell your PS2 for at least 100 dollars (100 at a gamestore assuming it's working, more on ebay if you throw in games and controllers) and then buy a new xbox with a samsung drive in it. It'll be cheaper than having your Thomson crap out on you and then make u have to buy a new DVD drive.

Whatever you decide your thompson will work just fine on -r discs, i use mine all the time and it never gave me a problem, also rumor is new thompsons read cdrs too which is going to make a lot of samsung guys pretty pissed who are asking $100 for their drives. Well just letting you know.

Well I feel pretty dumb, I just tried out a few of my DVD-R's on my PS2 and all of them work. Why the hell did I have this notion that they wouldnt?
Hmm, I was so convinced that it wouldnt work that I never even bothered to try lol. I think I'll probably just end up buying an Xbox when they drop to $129 or $99, theres still some oldies that I'm dieing to play on PS2/psx |
