I read that only some xbox systems are able to read CD-RW media; is there a way of knowing which systems run this type?

Also, is it possible to install MXM from a burnt CD-RW as opposed to networking the box to the PC?

Every XBox can read CD-RWs only some can read CD-Rs (Unless you actully burn them right but thats another story). Yes you can install MxM from a CD-RW, but you really should learn to FTP.
