Alright i successfully burned a game about a month ago and since then i had to reinstall windows as well as everything else. Now evox is telling me unknown disc when i try to burn ninja gaiden. I've used craxion to make the iso and deleted the
-j files to make it small enough to fit on a disk. i used nero to burn and am pretty sure all of the settings are right. I had this prob b4 and all i had to do is upgrade my liteon 811s firmware. so after the reinstall i upgraded the firmware but it has since been upgraded to a new version so could this be the prob. what do yall think.

Are you sure that the media type/brand you are using is compatible with your Xbox DVD drive?

yeah they are ritek's -R i believe and i have a sammy drive. like i said the only thing which i have changed since the last game of mine which i backed up is reformating my computer and reinstalling all of my software (windows included). everything else is the same but i think it is a newer version of firmware but it shouldn't have changed anything so that it now wouldn't work right?

i'm not sure but i think its a via....the motherboard is a gigabyte ga7vrx (not the raid version). why would that matter if b4 the os reinstall i successfully backuped up my tigerwoods 2003 and after the reinstall i can't backup my ninja gaiden with the jap movies deleted? all i'm not sure of is how the firmware version is not the same...the one i used is newer than the one i used when i burned tiger woods. Thanks for helping.

I just thought it might be possible you hadn't had chipset drivers installed prior to the reinstall.

If you recently flashed new firmware then that is likely the culprit. Can you flash back to old firmware. Are you running the newest firmware? I am and it works fine for me.

Here are some things to try:

1.) Try setting your 811S to be the slave on your secondary IDE channel. For some reason the 811S prefers that.

2.) Roll back any IDE drivers (no MS) to the original XP MS drivers.

Let me know how it turns out.

i'll try the drive settings like you suggested. and the firmware is the latest version, unfortunately it won't let me go to the older version. now that you speak of the chipset drivers i did use my motherboard drivers disk this time...i dont think i did last time. do you think i could uninstall/upgrade the drivers somehow.

I wouldn't uninstall the drivers alltogether (as the usually control many different things).

Go to my computer/properties/hardware/device manager and select "IDE/ATA/ATAPI Controllers" and select the bus that your Lite-On is on (i.e. Primary or Secondary IDE). There it will tell you what drivers it is using. If it's anything other than "MS" then select "Roll back drivers" so that you are using the MS drivers. (I'd reboot your system if it doesn't ask you to).

Also download the latest ATAPI drivers from the Adaptec website. I think the ones that come with XP are from like 1997 or 1998. The latest are from 2002.

Good luck!

Have you tried a different burning program or different media? What type of media are you using?

no i haven't tried different media. the media i'm using are ritek with the silver top (not sure if that makes a difference). and no i've only tried nero. again, and i'm sorry if i have the wrong state of mind about this, but i've done all of the same stuff as b4 when i did have a successful burn with tiger woods. i think the same version of nero and all...might have been an older version 5.5 or something. why would any of this be a problem. i think it could be firmware but i can't figure out a way to go back to the previous version to check it. what other versions of burning software do you suggest and are there any tutorials on that software? also y does the tutorial for nero 6 on the tut's page say to burn the game in CD mode rather than DVD mode, is this just for smaller games? other than getting this stuff working i'd like to be able to understand the problem and what happens to fix it if possible (personal satisfaction i guess). and Chefelf sorry for being a pain in your @ss but i do appreciate your help.

I'd strongly recommend RecordMax Now 4.5. There is a later version that I'm sure works good but 4.5 works great for me.

Some people just have trouble with Nero. Nero's a great program but I've had trouble with it in the past and even now with my new DVD burner some things just won't burn correctly using Nero.

RecordMax Now 4.5 has never failed me for backing up an Xbox game. At least give it a shot with one of the games you have trouble with. I only switched because Nero was giving me errors and I haven't gone back since.
