Using an advanced AV pack and a reguar S-Video Input on my computer, could I receive high resolution video? Or do I need to buy that X2VGA or whatever?

The Avanced AV pack only outputs 480i, any higher than that needs the High Def pack. As for quality, it depends on the TV in of your laptop. I know someone who runs his game cube through the the TV in of his GeForce2 GTS and it looks quite good.
