I was working on a friends Xbox that was having issues and I opened the unit to find a solderless chip in there, but one I am not familar with. I looked on xbox-scenes home page and couldn't find it. It is not a cheap mod or something home made. I didn't think to get a picture of it, but the main chip on the unit was labeled:

SST 49LF020

The chips design for the solderless install was similar to that of the Xecuter 2 + chips, but it wasn't a 2-2.3. If anyone could direct me to some possible pictures and information so I can figure out which chip he had and flashing info, please let me know. Thanks all.

Some other information that might be helpful in figuring out what chip this is. When I boot the unit it does not replace the MS with Xecuter, instead it stays as MS then loads EvolitionX fine. So I am able to get into dash fine and run apps fine, but I would like to find out what the chip is so I can flash the BIOS for him. I have tried through EvoX with different BIOS' and sizes, with no luck. With 256k BIOS it says Erasing and then sits there with no progress.

SST49LF020 is 49 Series - 2Mb LPC Flash from Silicon Storage Technology, Inc.

This is appearently an older chip as SST has announced EOL (end of life) for that chip.
49 Series - 2Mb LPC Flash SST49LF020

Here's a datasheet: SST49LF020

matrix modchips used SST romchips if i recall

also they would have to be flashed with an evox bios (says MS under the X) in order to use swap mode

Xbill, the info you found is useful, but its for the flash chip itself, not the chip I am hunting for, thanks for the information though. lordvader129, I will try to hunt for info about matrix chips. I just wish the damn chip was marked with a name haha.

just to let you know, neither of those is a defnitie for the chip, any chip could use the SST 49LF020 (i have a pinheader cheapmod here with that same chip) and anyting can use an evox bios

ill see if ic an find a pic of a matrix for you

Found it! It was a matrix. Now I just gotta figure out how to reflash it for him so we can get things up to date! Could someone give me some information on how I can flash this chip w/o needing a programmer? Thanks again.

Could I flash this chip with a 256k version of an x2 bios or do I have to use a different bios?
