Modding Sammy 616 More Than, just making it read originals Options

i am ogin to get a sammy 616 thats modded. i know that the front panel and the dvd tray are white. is there any way i can make them black. i dont wanna paint them thats too risky. is there any way i can die them or something? it was just a thought

you could use a sharpie marker

if you fill it all one way, it wont look bad

Dye will not adhere, and markers will scuff rather quickly because the coating is just too darned thin.

MOST if not all facades on DVD/CDROm drivers are EASILY removable.

That means you can get some primer, prime the face place and tray cover, then paint it black, resulting in a good flat Xboxlike coat which is extremely difficult to remove or scuff.

Why did you even bother with the DVD mod?

(which should be really pulled from the tutorials since it's fairly useless).

For the most part if you are using DVD-R which the xbox does't seem to read, then you have a problem elsewhere, not the Xbox.

Amoung 20+ models of Xbox of different versions, I have yet to find a single one that has had ANY difficulty reading properly written disks.

would it be possible 2 just swap the Drive Trays? like put the Drive tray in from ur Stock Drive. then again I have no idea if this is possible, but I did read once that some guy ripped his friends drive off, he swapped his Thompson for his Friends Sammy, and he also swapped Drive Trays so it wouldn't look different when he opened the Drive, so I was just wondering if ur capable of just swapping. if you could do this it would solve the white problem, also then it would transfer the DVD Bezel/Face Plate with the Tray and it would still match the XBOX perfect

swap drive trays? probably not.

You can use Vinyl Dye instead of spray paint, do a google search works well for painting xbox cases.

swapping drive trays will not work, the 616T is shorted in length then the 605b and the trays are also different lengths. Paint would work or I have a black 616T tray I could send you cheap.

You can buy vinyl dye at most auto parts stores.

you could also try krylon fusion (any paint that will soak into the plastic rather than just coat it)


and 67th: when a 616t is properly modded (with 605 firmware) it operates at the same speed as the stock 605, no speed increase at all

With DVD-R's being as cheap as they are now and the Xbox's ability to read them w/o fail, for people such as this challanged original poster, this is an exercise in futility.

The tutorials on the pot tweaks have ruined more Xboxes than any mod chipping attempt.

Those of the dark side, can usually aford the loss of a hand though....
