This will get your virgin xbox M$ Dash working again.
If you get the red light on a virgin xbox that means that
you messed up or corrupted the original M$ Dash files or
folders.
Also without the M$ Dash you can't get to the saves but if you
had Evox running that means you had the save on the xbox HDD
in the first place and it is still there.
You can't use any boot discs because of the original M$ BIOS.
Use 007/Mech/Whatever with Evox so you can establish an FTP
connection with your PC (Your xbox with the corrupted M$ Dash will
still cold boot games) Use the save you used to mess things up in
the first place.......
Once you are "in " your xbox make sure you have the following
files and folders which make-up your M$ Dash version you described.
You should have these files in your C:\
settings_adoc.xip (4094 kb)
xbox Book.xtf ( 16,669 kb)
xbox.xtf (1 kb)
xboxdash.xbe (1595 kb)
You should have the following Folders on C:\
Audio (33 MB)
Fonts
xodash (38.7)
xboxdashdata.17f14d00
These sizes represent the above version of M$ Dash and subs from others
dashes may not work!
Delete anything else that is there other than the files and folders above.
You can't rename anything on your C:\ (Hope you copied your C:\ & E:\
Partions over to your PC before you went messing around)
Tips, make sure that in the Fonts folder that the xbox.xtf and xbox Book.xtf
in there are not named xbox.xft and xbox Book.xft if you tried to install Evox,
this is why people can't get to the M$ Dash through Evox because these files are sometimes renamed. (Old way to install Evox, new evox ini finds evoxdash.xbe
first without the need to rename any original files on C:\ anymore)
(This also applies to the single files xbox.xtf and xbox Book.xtf in the C:\)
(Also make sure that you are using the right xboxdash.xbe for the right version
of M$ Dash you are using!)
With this done you can fix your original M$ Dash on your virgin xbox, install Evox
and be able to get back to your original M$ Dash through Evox.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(To remove Evox just delete the evox.ini and the evoxdash.xbe from C:\ and your xbox will boot back to the original M$ Dash, then run Evox again or install Evox on
the xbox permanently)
Most people who can't flip to the original M$ Dash through Evox should uninstall
Evox and restart and see if their original M$ Dash is working fine in the first place!
Many will get various "errors" if they messed the original up and if it is not working
the first place and Evox will never get it working no matter what you try!
If you uninstall Evox and your original M$ Dash works then re-boot Evox to establish
an FTP connection and just transfer over the evoxdash.xbe and your Evox ini file to c:\ and make sure you have the following lines in your Evox ini to find the working
dash....These are the xboxdash enteries by themselves.
[Misc]
in
MSDashBoard = "c:\xboxdash.xbe"
and
[Menu]
Item "MS Dashboard",ID_MS_Dash
If you uninstall Evox and you get "errors" you need new M$ Dash files...
(Just copy the C: partion from a virgin xbox, delete "all" the files from your
c:\ partion and copy over the new c:\ partion and the dash will work and don't rename anything just copy over evoxdash.xbe and your ini edited ini file and
the M$ Dash option within Evox should work.(Keep a copy!)
Don't worry about formatting anything, as far as I can see there is no disc that
actually "formats" the partions as much as just "deleting" files from the partion.
And if you use a so called install/format disc and it is not set up right you just deleted
all your original M$ Dash files out the door on c:\(if you do use a Evos disc installer
put the new c:\ partion + evoxdash.xbe+evox.in in the "cdrive" and make sure you
have it "set" not to "format" any partion!) and you don't even know because evox loads itself first anyway and when you try to get back to the dash you can"t
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you can't get an FTP connection it is the ip setting(s) that is wrong in the save.
Make a new save with these ini settings 192.168.0.1 / static "Yes" and copy to a
memory device and Mech with Evox will load the save from the device(007 will not)
and Evox will load for the FTP connection (megaXkey always works)
Set up the evox.ini to "find" the M$ Dash if you install Evox.
