Dashboard exploit summary.

New readers may find it helpful to read this first, What Are The Font And Audio Exploits?

UPDATE 27/11/2004: The “Über Xbe Exploit” (aka UXE) works on all XBOXs and is most likely to be right for most people, and supersedes the exploits below.

Anyone who's Kernel permits execution of a pre-live Dashboard (< K:5713) has the options of

• using the "Ultimate Dashboard Exploit" [info]
  • Pros:
    • Directing booting to Linux/PBL/Evox, etc.
    • No risk of clock loop.
    • Can still use custom sound tracks in games (the M$ Dashboard can still be accessed from Evox).
  • Cons:
    • No Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
    • No XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.

• downgrading to boot Dashboard 4920 and
  • using the boot font exploit (BiCoE, BigFonts, etc.) [info]
    • Pros:
      • Directing booting to Linux/PBL/Evox, etc,
      • Can still use custom sound tracks in games (the M$ Dashboard can still be accessed from Evox).
      • XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.
    • Cons:
      • Risk of clock-loop. [info]
        
      • No Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
  • using the MechFonts boot font exploit [info]
    • Pros:
      • Control over when exploit is triggered (very easy).
      • Can still use custom sound tracks in games.
      • XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.
    • Cons:
      • Risk of clock-loop (albeit reduced). [info]
      • No direct booting.
      • No Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
  • use the audio exploit [info]
    • Pros:
      • No risk of clock loop.
      • Control over when exploit is triggered.
      • Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
      • XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.
    • Cons:
      • Finger dancing in order to trigger exploit.
      • No direct booting.
      • Can't use custom sound tracks in games.
  • use the double-dash exploit [info]
    • Pros:
      • No risk of clock loop.
      • Control over when exploit is triggered (very easy).
      • Can still use custom sound tracks in games.
    • Cons:
      • No direct booting.
      • No Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
      • No XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.
  • use the easter egg exploit [info]
    • Pros:
      • No risk of clock loop.
      • Control over when exploit is triggered.
      • Can still use custom sound tracks in games.
      • Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
      • XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.
    • Cons:
      • Finger dancing in order to trigger exploit.
        
      • No direct booting.

• using the latest boot Dashboard, retaining access to it's benefits (up to 5959 anyway) and
  • using the double-dash exploit [info]
    • Pros:
      • No risk of clock loop.
      • Control over when exploit is triggered (very easy).
      • Can still use custom sound tracks in games.
    • Cons:
      • No direct booting.
      • No Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
      • No XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.

    • Pros:
      • No risk of clock loop.
      • Control over when exploit is triggered.
      • Can still use custom sound tracks in games.
      • Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.

• using the very latest boot Dashboard 5960, retaining access to it's benefits(?)
  • use the easter egg exploit [info]
    • Pros:

      • Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console.
      • XBOX!Live game access to the XBOX!Live console.
    • Cons:
      • Finger dancing in order to trigger exploit.
      • No direct booting.

All these exploits have solutions to any disk swapping issue, thus can play homebrew media.

Anyone who's Kernel prevents them executing a pre-live Dashboard (that'd be >= K:5713) can use UXE.

I it possible to even use the double dash with media? I thought it still had reset on eject enabled.

Boot the xbox. Eject the drive. Launch the DD. Put your backup in. Close the drive. Enjoy. Reboot the xbox, take out the game.

Rinse and repeat.

What exploit is best for me?

- do not want to use Live
- xbox code at 4034
- would like direct boot or easy boot (no finger dancing)
- would like to play games from HD, no DVD needed.

can someone please suggest an exploit and possibly a package to FTP (I know the place!)

Isn't true though that with Bert is cheating on Ernie you do risk ending in a more deadly clock loop, since these fonts have no clock-recovery code (unlike reloaded/bigfonts)? Meaning a clock loop requires a hotswap to fix. If you never unplug your xbox and never experience power loss, then BiCoE is a good choice.
Using Reloaded or Bigfonts you would have to run PBL to achieve what you want, but I think the extra 4secs. it takes to load PBL is worth the wait. Just my opinion...

I thought the double-dash had a loop problem too?

I do not need it for Linux so pressing a button or two is no biggie. I want to ensure I do not have to unloop the box since it does get unplugged often.

Main reason for me for doing the exploit is to run games from the HD and not DVD.

Then the double-dash exploit is a good choice. It has no loop problem. Only issue is the "Reset on eject". As explained in the DD thread you can still play backups from DVD media, but the xbox will reset when the DVD drive is ejected. If you will mainly be playing from HDD then that is no problem.

DD sounds right for me.

Three quick questions...

1) my dash is at 4034 - do I need to update to 4920? If yes, how?
- I do not have nor want to purchase Live.

2) what is the best way to install onto a virgin box?
- I have a memory card
- I can build usb connector if needed but I do no have a USB memory drive.
- I read about and getting FTP but not sure if I should/need to?

3) what is the latest package with DD in it? (I know how to get it just need the name)

ok

#1 u will need to obtain the 4920 dash from slayer's 2.5. search on google for it and u should easily find the bittorrent link for it. i believe bittorrent is the only way to get it. it's not on xbins.

#2 a memory card will work fine but then u will need to contruct an xbox to usb adapter so u can plug ur controller into ur pc. or u could use ur usb to xbox adapter and buy a usb jump drive look here for a usb jump drive compatibility list. then u will need to use a gamesave exploit to gain ftp access to ur box. check my sig for my splinter cell exploit guide that has all the info u should need to get going.
