I have a Thomson drive that is battling to read some original games.
Initial setting is 333 ohms. Seems very low according to tutorials I have read.

What do you suggest I do? Go up or down? And by how much to start?

The disc reading problem may not be due to the optics. So you are taking a gamble.

The correct way to do this is with a reference disk and a scope to determine the optimal part of the graph "hump".

Without a scope the tutorials tell you to turn in small 15 degree increments, and test the results with a meter.

Not the way I'd do it though I guess it's better than nothing.

Thanks a lot.
I have adjusted a little and the most troublesome original game (Ninja Gaiden) now loads ONLY if in the drive and the console is cold booted.
If the dash is running and I bomb the disc in, it gives the reading error. The game never used to boot at all.

Drive is also slightly noisier. I guess I have to keep trying!

From 333 ohm original setting, how low can I go?
