I went to download the Street Fighter 2 ROM for MAME, but there are over 20, possibly 30, different versions of SF2. Any recommendations as to which one is worth getting?

Super Street Fighter 2 X is my fave. You will need a few files (can't remember the specifics) as they "stack" on top of each other (e.g. SF2 + SSF2 + SSF2X).

Before I forget, everyone on this forum owns all of the machines and games that they emulate so they are all within the realms of legitimacy. They will now issue derisive comments because you are downloading ROMs and not being a God fearing legit gameplayer like them.

but the best street fighter
and ultimate capcom fighter its marvel vs capcom 2

well like ther other guy said, you should get the parent roms which you can tell by their name. EG: sf2, sf2ce, ssf2. and so on.

my personal favorite is sf2 turbo but second to that is sfa3.

and just for kicks, try sf2koryu cool.gif

Start with some SF2, then move directly to superSF2Turbo, then move to SF3Alpha.

best way to enjoy all streetfighter.

SFII' Champion Edition.

It expanded on the original just enough to be exciting (bosses, same character matches). After that things just started getting stupid.

Can't really go wrong with Super Street Fighter II Turbo. It's still active on the tournament scene close to 10 years after the release of the game. Great game with good balance, no doubt about it.

Ugh, Street Fighter 1 was horrible!

Although, it was fun to watch folks play the "two big button" version (one punch, one kick button, each the size of a pancake. Depending on how hard you hit each, you got a jab/strong/fierce... heh!)

PS. Damn you, SF1 Sagat!!!

Anyway, I'm partial to SSF2T and SFA3. As StaticX mentioned, SSF2T is the most balanced, and thus the most fun. Of course, you should be playing versus another opponent, never the CPU!
