If I plug a USB hub into my Xbox controller port with a USB adaptor, can I plug multiple USB devices into it at once? I ask because it'd be nice to just get one adapter and a hub, and be able to plug a keyboard and mouse into the same port, keeping more ports free.

Another stupid question; does it matter if the hub is powered or unpowered? All I want to hook up is a keyboard and mouse.

Sorry to bump, but I really want to know if it matters if the hub used requires external power or not.

USB shouldn't need to be mains powered, it gets power from the yellow (5 volts cable) I think.

The yellow wire is not used in USB wiring. Should be a strainght color for color match when splicing in.....

An unpowered (actually the correct term is "bus-powered") hub will work fine for low-current draw devices like keyboards and mice.

If you were connecting, say, a USB hard drive or an iPod, or a scanner that didn't have its own power supply, etc. then you'd want a powered (or "self-powered") hub.

Excellent, I'll be purchasing a keyboard with an unpowered USB hub in it then.

Great advice guys, thanks a lot! biggrin.gif
