Add Games Database [Initial work done, debugging]

I can work on tying in preview media and icons using the database once infrastructure is in place to grab media over the web (using an ActionScript client).

whats not in place BJ?

Web-Based Games database, with media, thumbs, mini-covers is up and going.

MXM has actionscript support to do it all.

alpha script written, but i've been quite busy lately.

Downloadable Content << -- all the information you might need is in the first post.

im still at a loss for what exactly the Games DB (in MXM) is for.

MXM uses the GamesDB for getting bits of information to create menus. You could also add any fields you might want copied into a menu entry - for example, media and thumbnail image paths - that might be added when you download content.

In the near future I'll add a callback to dynamically update the menu items from this database when it gets updated, so you'll see changes in media (as well as names and descriptions), for example, on-the-fly.

I like the sound of the GamesDB. I made a post a few weeks ago where I proposed that the mxm_entry stuff could be kept in a folder outside of the game's folder (so that I could delete games by deleting their whole folder and re-add them later and keep the customized title/description and so on, without having to fiddle about with saving mxm_entrys). This 'centralised' GamesDB sounds like a solution to this. Does this mean we won't need mxm_entrys in future?

Pretty much, though they can help control things within a directory.

I would like to also add an indicator, for example, of when an XBE is a demo or other superfluous app, so MXM will not automatically add the XBE when found, as part of the GamesDB.

The GamesDB provides information about a specific XBE based on XBEID and size. The "size" part is required since demo apps tend to share IDs with the main apps, and homebrew authors can't get it through their thick heads to use proper TitleImage information (IDs, logos, etc...) - so there are, in some cases, dozens of apps with the identical XBE ID (listening, Shizno? ohmy.gif ).

The GamesDB solution isn't perfect, but it's the best I can think of for now (using the title name info doesn't work, since people might change that).
