Hardware Goals
Xenon was designed with the following goals in mind:

•Focus on innovation in silicon, particularly features that game developers need. Although all Xenon hardware components are technologically advanced, the hardware engineering effort has concentrated on digital performance in the CPU and GPU.

•Maximize general purpose processing performance rather than fixed-function hardware. This focus on general purpose processing puts the power into the Xenon software libraries and tools. Rather than being hamstrung by particular hardware designs, software libraries can support the latest and most efficient techniques.

•Eliminate the performance issues of the past. On Xbox, the primary bottlenecks were memory and CPU bandwidth. Xenon does not have these limitations.

not to long ago they were aiming for a small one, who cares if your to lazy to caryy around a 12pound xbox, well go fuck yourself. i think M$'s shit hit the fan when sony got the cell processor, unless sony cant bring something as fierce as the R500 GPU to the table they may turn out to have completly differnt preformence in games(like a 3200+ 32bit amd vs a 3.2ghzEE p4 but the 3200 gets a X800XT while the p4 gets a 9800XT

Agreed. The xbox is not unreasonably large. IMO it is the best looking console, and actually feels like like a machine rather then some lite plastic toy like the other consoles do. But the xbox 2 will be more then likely small, as to kiss the minority Japanese's ass. Go figure.

This is exactly what was said about the original Xbox when it first debuted; how large and heavy it was. The fact is, the technology to shrink what's needed in an Xbox2 down to the size of a Playstation, or a Dreamcast for that matter, doesn't exist. I guess all we can do is deal with it, no more no less.

Yea anything I've read quoted from various msft people seems to state they have every intention of making the next xbox smaller than the current. The size of the Xbox was one of the things people frequently bitched about so I'm sure they'll be addressing that issue if at all possible considering the technology they are cramming in there.

awesome --- the new console is called xenon laugh.gif . i chose xenon as a random element from the periodic table as my counter strike name and the new console is called xenon laugh.gif
anyways, i really dont care how big it is, as long its easy to carry around in two hands. not bulky or anything, just somethin to beat sorny. laugh.gif

Does anybody else remember the news from a few months ago saying that M$ was making the XBox Lite? It had all the power and capability of the XBox, but in a substantially smaller package. If they can do it with the first one, it doesn't seem too far off that they could do it with Xenon. Even with the hard drive, it could still be smaller and lighter than the first one, especially with companies like Hitachi making their super slim drives now.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think the SYSTEM is big at all. The only reason people even brought it up in the begining was because the system AND THE CONTROLLER were FUCKING HUGE!

So it basically turned into a flame fest of "Xbox is a huge piece of crap, it's gigantic it's heavy blah blah"

It was because of the pairing that it got shit. Once the S-Controller came out there wasnt much bitching about the xbox anymore, controller or the system.

And as far as people saying the xbox is too big and heavy, GET OFF THE FUCKING COUCH AND DO SOME REPS WITH THE SYSTEM YOU PUNY BASTARDS! MAYBE IF YOU DO THAT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO BUILD SOME DAMN MUSCLE AND CARTING AROUND THAT 9 POUNDS WONT BOTHER YOU SO MUCH!




Better yet you could play DDR and be like this girl here.
