Hi,
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me figure out why my xbox crashes to the MS dashboard after about ten minutes of watching a dvd. Any dvd.

Tried to Mod the box but failed and burned out an LCD but got back to the dashboard working ok. Games I haven't tested yet to see if they crash the same way just dvds.

Anybody else ever have a similar problem? Any solutions?

Thanks for any help you could give me.

Could be anything considering the above, but I'd say most likely that you have an old DVD drive (possibly Thomson). How old is your xbox?

Yes it's a Thompson--The box is fairly new about a month old. I think it's a v1.3. I thought may be when the box got put back together after the failed mod attempt some got left unplugged or the software may have gotten a little scrambled.

I didn't think thomsons came in 1.3s, is there a possibility that someone has sold you one with their crapped out thomson inside?

You could make sure that the connections are firmly in the back of the drive. Also try testing for a while with a couple of games. If you need a new drive then the buy/sell forums here or maybe ebay are your best bets.

It could well be a problem also with your M$ dash software. , in which case a modchip might be your best option, then you could get slayers or such and restor the m$ dash
