is it ok to leave my xbox on for hours at a time so it's available to ftp to and use xbmc on whenever i want?

Well, there is an option in MS's Xbox dashboard to automatically turn the Xbox off if it has been idle for 6 hour. My theory is: if the creator thinks it is important not to keep the Xbox on, then you should probably hinks it's important too.

If you really want to keep your Xbox on, then rest assured that the Xbox will automatically turn off if it's system temperature gets too hot. So I don't think you have any risk of heat related damage.
